What should I take NIT Kurukshetra Civil/Electrical or YMCA CS?

TA
Tithi Aggrawal Posted On : September 2nd, 2023
Lives in New Delhi

Let’s consider both scenarios individually to get a better understanding. YMCA CS is a decent option only if you are interested in the field because the opportunities are mostly limited to IT companies. There aren’t many options for further studies.

However, if you go for Electrical/Civil Engineering at NIT Kurukshetra, then you can change your branch at the end of the first year depending upon your CGPA in the first year. In NIT Kurukshetra even the IT companies offer better packages than YMCA. If you are not able to change your branch you can get placed in PSUs. Electrical engineering students also get to choose their profile in their final year amongst Software, power, and control. So you have the flexibility to choose the field in which you want to get placed. You don't have to stick to the branch you took initially. This won’t be possible if you take YMCA CS.

Here is a brief comparison of these institutes

Parameters

NIT Kurukshetra

YMCA (2021)

Fees

1.6 Lakhs (BTech first year)

1.03 Lakhs (BTech 1st Year Fees)

Ranking

58 out of 200 in 2023

151 out of 200 colleges in 2022

Highest CTC

INR 1.25 CPA

INR 29.92 LPA

Average CTC

INR 13.89 LPA

-

Top Recruiters

ICICI Lombard, HCL Technologies, Microsoft, Adani Group

Samsung, Flipkart, HCL

An advantage of choosing NIT Kurukshetra over YMCA is the crowd quality and the NIT tag while YMCA offers a better location and higher growth prospects in the IT field as compared to electrical/Civil where the opportunities are limited.

So make your choice wisely!

What would you suggest, KJ Somaiya financial services or TAPMI PGDM?

AM
Aniket Mridha Posted On : January 9th, 2023
MBA in Marketing & Human Resource Management, T. A. Pai Management Institute (Graduated 2011)

You should enroll in TAPMI PGDM. It is better than KJ Somaiya Financial Services. The following are the reasons:

  • Better placement statistics in comparison to KJ.
  • TAPMI has received AACSB International accreditation, which is currently uncommon among Indian colleges.
  • TAPMI has a Bloomberg Terminal Lab, which is extremely useful for students interested in finance.
  • The PGDM program allows you to choose your subjects in the second year and to pursue a dual specialization.
  • TAPMI has a more diverse crowd than KJ because of its more rigorous profile-based selection.

The only disadvantage of TAPMI in comparison to KJ is its location. Despite its geographical disadvantage, TAPMI has been able to carve a niche for itself over the last 30 years or so.

Which is best, NICMAR Pune or Hyderabad?

BC
Binita Chatterjee Posted On : September 29th, 2021
Studies Real Estate and Urban Infrastructure Management (REUIM) at NICMAR Hyderabad,2022

Frankly, NICMAR Pune and NICMAR Hyderabad are incomparable, since they are both somewhat in the same range.

  • NICMAR was first established in Pune, following which the Hyderabad campus came into view.
  • NICMAR Hyderabad is only a branch of the main campus situated in Pune.
  • The Pune campus unquestionably is treated as a better choice than Hyderabad.
  • Other than that, the curriculum and pedagogy of both institutes remain almost identical.
  • However, if talking about the campus physically, then NICMAR Hyderabad is several times larger than the former.
  • Shifting the focus to the placement scenario of both the institutes, you must note that companies visit campus in accordance with their regional benefits.
  • Quite clearly, the Hyderabad campus would actually obtain recruiters that are located around the region of the institute, while Pune will receive offers from recruiters around Pune itself.
  • However, the offers from MNCs remain almost in the same range for both institutes.
Categories NICMAR Pune NICMAR Hyderabad
Highest CTC 15 LPA 16 LPA
Average CTC 6.5-8 LPA 6-7 LPA
Recruiting Companies L&T, Suntech, Oberoi Realty, Space Matrix, etc.  Tata, SPCL, CBRE, Synergy, etc.

Therefore, the only visible point of difference is that the local companies visiting each campus vary on a larger scale. Apparently, that is exactly where the count of companies eventually alters.

How can I choose between IIT Madras and IIT Kanpur?

AS
Aditi Sengupta Posted On : April 12th, 2023
Studied at the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras

Choosing between IIT Kanpur and IIT Madras can be a daunting task, but there are a few things to keep in mind while making this decision.

  • If you are from the North and want to be near home, then choose IIT Kanpur. For a South Indian, IIT Madras might be a better option.
  • If you want to explore different parts of the country and experience diverse cultures, then you should consider the IIT in the other region. For example, a north Indian should choose IIT Madras and a south Indian should opt for IIT Kanpur.
  • Don't get caught up in the rankings or the location. Both institutes are highly prestigious and offer excellent education and opportunities.
  • In the past, IIT Kanpur used to close early, but that should not be a decisive factor.

You must keep in mind that both institutes are highly respected and highly regarded that offer excellent academic programs, faculty, and research opportunities.

Which is better: IMI, Delhi or XIMB?

SN
Shubhra Nath Posted On : March 15th, 2023
MBA-HRM from XIM University, Bhubaneswar

The choice between IMI and Xavier University depends on which course you want to pursue.

If you want to pursue the core course, i.e., General Management at IMI or Business Management at XIMB, then both are almost at par with similar placements. Your decision will be based on your location and brand preference.

If you want to pursue HR, then Xavier has the advantage.

If you want to pursue Rural Management, Sustainability Management, Urban Governance or Masters in Business Finance, then IMI Delhi doesn't have any of these courses. On the other hand, IMI Delhi offers Banking and Financial Services which is not offered by Xavier University.

One of my cousins was in a similar dilemma when she got selected for both Civil at NIT Jamshedpur and CSE at IIIT Ranchi. S he decided to go for NIT Jamshedpur as she had no interest in the IT sector at all. S he wanted a core branch and NIT Jamshedpur seemed to be her best choice. Which is better, NIT Kurukshetra or Thapar University?

MA
Madhav Aneja Posted On : September 2nd, 2023
Lived in Chandigarh, India

NIT Kurukshetra is certainly a better choice than Thapar University. A private University like Thapar may look appealing from the outside with its excellent infrastructure but NIT being a government college and an institute of National Importance certainly has an edge in terms of fees, academics, facilities, and the crowd it attracts. Here are a few strong points that might convince you to choose NIT Kurukshetra

  1. Infrastructure : Most government colleges are old and have falling infrastructure that reminds you of an old building. However, the departments of each stream are well-established.
  2. Internet : NIT Kurukshetra campus has 24*7 wifi/ LAN access almost everywhere.
  3. Fees : Government colleges don’t charge exorbitantly high fees like private colleges. NIT Kurukshetra fees for the first year are 1.6 Lakhs while the same for Thapar University is 4.61 Lakhs.
  4. Fest : The fests organized by government colleges are at another level given the fact that they receive funds from the government for the same. Students have to pay very less for registration whereas in private colleges students have to pay a hefty sum.
  5. Crowd: The government colleges have a much better and refined crowd for the simple reason that these students have worked hard to qualify for admission whereas the private colleges rarely conduct any test and just accept students for money.
  6. Placements: Government colleges are visited by the best companies that offer excellent packages. Here is a difference in the placement scenario of the two colleges

Parameters

NIT Kurukshetra

Thapar University

Fees

1.6 Lakhs (BTech first year)

4.61 Lakhs (BTech First Year)

NIRF Ranking

22 out of 200 colleges in 2023

INR 10.97 LPA

Top Recruiters

ICICI Lombard, HCL Technologies, Microsoft, Adani Group
