Is a dual degree in IT a good option at IIEST Shibpur?
IIEST is accepting admissions only for BTech degree from 2017, and you will get an option to prolong with Dual Degree course or study only BTech.
IT is one of the finest Dual Degree Courses in this institute, considering both the placement statistics and academics.
Additionally, the IT department of IIEST has the best researchers. This department publishes approximately 3000+ research papers, as per NIRF 2016 counting. However, the research is conducted mainly from the areas of Signal Processing, ML, and core computing areas.

However, the IT students here get several esteemed internship opportunities in IIT KGP, GSoC, IIT M, IIT B, IIIT A, and Abroad. One of my friends told me that one of his batch mates (a 3rd-year student) got selected by Google to complete his internship in California (this type of opportunity is very hard to get, especially from a country like India).
Thus, it can be mentioned that IT is one of the promising streams to be studied from this institute that is IIEST.

Branch-wise, you won’t find many differences as the curriculum and courses covered are almost similar. However, the overall ambiance and exposure offered us better at BITS Pilani. Here are a few points to support my stance
- BITS Pilani has 2 internships of its own. This is an extremely crucial point as the government has made 3 internships compulsory for engineering students in order to secure a good job.
- Another plus point of BITS is its extremely flexible curriculum with a plethora of electives to choose from. Additionally, there are open electives from other branches that lets you explore beyond your branch and broaden your horizons.
- A few tech giants prefer visiting only IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, and BITS Pilani.
- BITS Pilani has an excellent peer group with some students who have cleared prestigious competitions like GSOC, and ACM ICPC. You will find yourself surrounded by top rankers around 1000 AIR in JEE Advance.
- The alumni pool is extensive and constantly supports the institute.
- BITS Pilani has got the tag of Institute of Eminence tag making it eligible to collaborate more with foreign universities and carry on student and faculty exchange programs freely.
Ultimately, there is no right choice, and choosing one over the others is completely a personal choice. Either way, you will lose and gain something!

Which is best, IIIT Allahabad information tech or BIT Mesra ECE or IT?
IT In IIIT- Allahabad is a great choice. It is one of the best colleges in India for this field and branch. The course structure is amazing and polished and focuses more on topics related to IT. The course emphasizes practical applications. There are almost no courses that are out of the sphere of field.
The labs and infrastructure are one of a kind and the student culture in IT is very motivated. Most of the students start taking part in competitive programming right from the 1st or 2nd year. If you find coding really interesting and see it as a career, then you should definitely go for IIIT-Allahabad. The coding culture is awesome and people praise it a lot. You will love the college for its study environment. If you feel the passion and love for hardware-oriented work, you should definitely go for ECE.
Placements:
- The placements for IT are really good. They have top IT companies or firms visiting the campus.
- Some of the top companies are Microsoft, Facebook, Adobe, Flipkart, Amazon, Directi, etc. offers a great package.
- 2020 batch received the highest package of 43 LPA and an average package of 20.83 LPA.
- The college’s reputation is growing significantly year by year.
Seeing the wonderful coding culture, the growing alumni base of brilliant minds, and therefore the previous records of placements from IIIT- Allahabad, there’s no lookout for any other college if you intend to be a part of this one.
Talking about the disadvantages, the campus doesn’t lie in the proximity area of any big city or town. The proximity to a metro city nearby is a huge problem. Though BIT Mesra has the same issue, hence I feel that both the colleges are even. A journey to Delhi by train takes a lot of time, probably a one-night trip.
How is ECE at IIIT Ranchi?
The ECE branch at IIIT Ranchi is not that good. IIIT Ranchi is also being shifted to a temporary campus in Ranchi very soon. In the new temporary campus, the distance between the hostel and the academic block will be 10-15 km.
- The recruitment process for new faculties also is not fair. However, if you want to pursue pure ECE or CSE, the faculty quality is decent.
- You will also need to keep a good relationship with the faculties to score well in the examination.
- The placement statistics also are not that good. With a batch size of 120-150, it will be quite difficult too. The batch intake is also likely to increase to 180.
It is very unlikely that IIIT Ranchi will have a permanent campus any time soon. So, it will be better if you don’t go for IIIT Ranchi.
Should I choose EE at NIT Warangal or CSE at Jadavpur University?
Jadavpur University is ranked 5th among the universities in India. The Department of CSE at this University is renowned for its placement and academic support
NIT Warangal is also one of the most reputed engineering colleges in India. They have a good infrastructure, a rich alumni network, and provide quality education to their students. The department of EEE is gifted with well-qualified professors and the placement statistics in recent years have been comparatively high at NIT Warangal
Hence, you can choose any of these institutes, and initial priority should be given to your interest in the core subject.
What is the placement scenario of Mtech in Mining Machinery Engineering at IIT Dhanbad?
Mining Machinery is an interdisciplinary branch which combines the curriculums of Mining and Mechanical.
Mining companies which require a mechanical engineer, seek candidates from this branch. Irrespective of B.Tech or M.Tech, if you have a good knowledge of your branch, you’ll get placed in a core company. The curriculum is quite interesting too. Mining and Hydraulics are very interesting topics because of their practical nature. The course burden is comparatively low, so you can simultaneously prepare for a competitive exam.
Most students get placed in core companies like JSW, KCCL, Terex, Technip FMC, Normet, Thriveni Earthmovers, Dott Services and SMS Limited. The placements hugely rely on your class placement representative. He/she has to make efforts to bring in companies.
Overall, the placement scenario is good for M.Tech in Mining Machinery Engineering at IIT Dhanbad.

Personally, I feel VIT Vellore is a much better option than DSCE. Except for its location, VIT Vellore has an upper hand in almost all aspects be it infrastructure or placements. However, if you are not getting a branch of your choice at VIT Vellore or you are getting a less preferred branch, then DSCE can be considered. But if you are getting CS, ISE, ECE, and EEE at VIT Vellore then it should be given a preference to DSCE. Considering specific parameters
- Quality of education: Both institutes have equally good academic environments and highly qualified teachers.
- Infrastructure: VIT Vellore definitely scores better here because of its huge campus and facilities that are way ahead that DSCE. Don’t get me wrong, DSCE is one of the best in Bangalore but its size is nowhere near VIT Vellore.
- Placements: DSCE has 100% placements for CSE but average placements for core branches. VIT Vellore again scores better here.
Overall, VIT Vellore seems a more promising choice than DSCE although the difference seems to be very slight.

- Fee Structure: BIT Mesra BTech fees are higher than IITs and NITs because it’s a private engineering college. The total fee stands at 14.42 Lakhs which is much lower than most private engineering colleges though.
- Clubs: CS and IT students can upgrade their skills through various clubs that conduct regular workshops and contests. ACM focuses on competitive coding.
- Extracurricular activities: The institute does not focus on academics alone and students are given freedom to pursue their choice of extracurriculars through a number of clubs.
- Campus life: BIT Mesra has a very vibrant campus life and students celebrate all major festivals. A number of events are organized such as Bitotsav, pantheon, Vajra, sports meet, etc.
- Campus facilities: The campus has a number of facilities that make life comfortable for example WiFi, DC Support, hostels, Dhabas, Restranauts, gym, and stationery shops. Additionally, there are some night canteens to cater to your midnight cravings.
- Placements: BIT Mesra placement scenario of the CS and IT branch is exceptionally good. The average package for IT last year stood at INR 20.58 LPA while that of CSE stood at INR 19.27 LPA.
