First of all, the politicians need to know how to compromise with the people. From a very early age, we all somehow learned how to compromise with our parents in one way or another. For example, many of us in our childhood must have cleaned the room just to watch our favorite cartoon on TV in return. The child looks for something from the parents, thus is ready to accept his/her parents' term and does what the parents require first. Similarly, when a politician addresses a law or policy that needs contributions from the people, it is his/her duty to listen to people and offer a reasonable agreement to them. For instance, if politicians are in favor of increasing the tax for build a public school or hospital, then they must promise that the money collected will be used for the purpose of serving society in a better manner. It is the meaning of compromise, you have to give something in order to get what you desire.

However, his Emancipation Proclamation proved to be a successful movement because he was the one who was in the favor of human rights and promoted the same. His goal was a noble cause. In conclusion, I would say that a politician must obviously reach a common ground and reasonable consensus with the people. But, indefinable ideals must not always be seen as unreasonable, because as a politician, an individual might have a bigger picture and justified reason that can help bring significant changes in the society and can transform society into a better civilization.
