Dr M Ruban is an Assistant professor of the Vels Institute of Science Technology and Advanced Studies, Chennai. He completed a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering at Kamaraj Polytechnic College, Nagercoil, followed by the Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering at Sathyabama University. Also, he did Thermal Engineering at Hindustan University and holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering at the Vels Institute of Science Technology and Advanced Studies. A recent Project completed by him is Solar Power Generator using TEG.10 Years of teaching experience. Dr.Ruban has reviewed Journals and also carries publications under his name.

Being a Faculty of the Automobile Department, what are your roles and responsibilities towards the students?

“To provide additional references and guide or mentor students in their studies”

My roles and responsibilities are conducting classes, teaching the syllabus, and providing additional references related to Automobile Engineering for students. We prepare notes to ease their difficulties during examinations, being friendly, and understanding their needs and give solution. Mentoring the students and guiding them in their projects is my main priority. 

How do you tend to establish healthy relations with the students and fellow faculty in Vels Institute of Science Technology and Advanced Studies?

“Mentors guide students and formulate effective relationships on campus”

Relationship building with students and faculties has been expressive. Each faculty constantly guides the students and helps them by mentoring at any time possible. We provide students interest in a particular area like Quality, Marketing, and Production. So, they can prefer guidance along with requirements and be satisfied.

What are the best practices offered by the department to the students which help them gain necessary skills?

“Practical classes, and technical knowledge provided to students”

There are two types of processes such as Hardware and Software processes apart from CAD. The design courses are upgraded to CATIA. In contrast, Hardware has assembling and dismantling of the parts which help them to be practically sound. Practical classes are a must for such courses which determines students' thoughts to implement in the future.

How do you strategize the curriculum and get updated to make it befitting for the students?

“Internet related studies and clarify pupils' doubts in our campus”

The curriculum being strategized also has a brief explanation. I would also expect them to study references and other Internet-related studies. It is elaborated during class hours through Youtube videos that teach us easier methods of study and knowledgeable content. Every student will have to share their studies in the dice and clarify students' doubts.

What are your views on the placements and higher education of the students from Vels Institute of Science Technology and Advanced Studies?

“Placements from core-based companies are available to pupils”

Students’ views on placements are expected in the CORE field as they fall in the Mechanical background. Some pupils prefer hardware and others opt for the design arena. Pupils in our department requested the placement from CORE-based companies to expertise their career. Among the overall department, only 3 students opted for Higher education focusing on European Countries.

Do you have any extracurricular activities/ programs to enhance the skills of the students or expose them to real-world challenges?

“Research, smart classes and cultural fests are given to students from campus”

Smart classes were requested by the management for pupils. We motivated students to visit the library and do research for the projects. Students carry different mentalities and eventually are extremely cooperative. 

When you came to Vels Institute of Science Technology and Advanced Studies, what was your vision and how are you trying to achieve the same?

“To improve students' skills and help them to achieve their dream job”

After post-completion of my degree, I was among the faculties who are focused on Teaching the Students. Not just the curriculum, Skills, Publishing and pattern publishing are necessary. My vision is to improve students skills and assist them to achieve their career. During the Pandemic, everybody faced Challenges. The student’s mindsets were different. I felt their difficulties. It was challenging from faculties perspective to bring back to normalcy.

What valuable advice would you like to the students for them to have a prosperous career ahead?

“Motivate yourself and stick to results”

My advice to the students is simple as they are mentally sound from 3 rd year onwards. Our University also prepares them for the best. I try to be their mentor and to become future prospects. We try to grow through their family business. Keep Motivating yourselves, stick to the process, and results will follow.
