Dr.K.Kalaivani, Assistant Professor and Head i/c, Department of Computer Science and Engineering. Dr. K . Kalaivani completed B.E from VIT, Vellore., an M.E from Vels Institute of Science, Technology and Advanced Studies and Ph.D from VIT, Chennai. She received Gold Medal from the Governor of Tamilnadu for being the topper in M.E (Computer Science and Engineering). She has undergone an International Internship at Universiti Malaysia Perlis, Malaysia in April 2015. She received the Women Empowerment award, Young Educator and Researcher Award from external agencies. She presented a paper at the International Conference organized in Siam University, Thailand. She has published 7 patents and 45 articles in peer-reviewed journals. Her research specializations include image processing, remote sensing, Artificial Intelligence, and Machine Learning.

Several industry specific courses like Big Data Analytics, Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, Machine Learning, Internet of Things, Full stack Development, Cloud Computing, Mobile computing, Cyber Security, Robotics etc.., are part of the curriculum in B.E Computer Science and Engineering (CSE).   1. CSE department has signed MoU with many industries and international universities for innovative teaching -learning, internship, research and project works.
  2. Alumni from top industries frequently visit our department for sharing their knowledge and experience with our faculty and students. 

What were the challenges that you faced while inculcating this program in your curriculum?

The challenge is to have a unique and differentiated curriculum to be industry relevant in these programs. This is being achieved through a series of brainstorming design thinking sessions involving internal faculty members, alumni, experts from academia and industry. The professional electives basket is periodically updated to meet the regress change in the IT world. 


What are the types of projects that the students are working on through this program?

The opportunities and exposure for being “hands-on” is an unbeatable experience for the students in CSE during the 4-year journey. VISTAS CSE environment help students to indulge in the culture of doing projects throughout the program and not just in the final year. Inhouse, application-specific, industry, and research projects are some examples.
