NMIMS has collaborated with SAS to conduct ‘Business Analytics and Data Mining Championship 2017’, the biggest hunt for Data Science Talent across Indian Universities. The last day of registration for the event is September 28, 2017. The event is scheduled to be held from October 1, 2017, to October 14, 2017, at NMIMS, Mumbai campus.

What is Business Analytics and Data Mining Championship 2017?

Business Analytics and Data Mining Championship is basically a platform for those who are pursuing their UG/PG in any stream to showcase their skills and hone their analytical minds. The event intends to push the envelope of data analytics across India.

NMIMS, one of the top-10 B-schools in India, in association with SAS, the leader in analytics, aspires to instill a passion for Data Science & Business analytics amongst students and professionals along with the enhancement of competitive culture in India.

Who can apply?

Students and professionals from any part of India can apply for this event. The participants are divided into two categories:

  • Graduates
  • Post Graduates

Participation in both the categories of candidates will be segregated as per their qualification. Although individual participation is welcome, taking part in a group of 3 is preferred. After registering individually, groups can be formed or one can also join an existing group for participation.

Note: A team should not consist of more than 3 people.

Format of the Event

The championship will consist of three stages:

  1. Online Assessment
  2. Problem Solving
  3. Presentation

The details concerning each stage have been stated below:

Online Assessment: The online assessment will be conducted for each participant on October 1, 2017, and October 2, 2017. Each participant will have to undergo the assessment irrespective of group participation or individual participation.

Assessment will be based on “Aptitude, Base SAS, Data Science Awareness & Statistical Knowledge.” Each participant will be provided with free e-learning and verified SAS participation badge. After the final assessment, only top 30 teams will proceed to the next round.

Problem Solving: The second round will be conducted at NMIMS Mumbai campus on October 12, 2017, and October 13, 2017.

On the first day, participants will be provided a mentor and a problem statement. This problem statement must be solved within 24 hours’ time and submitted to the jury at the end of round 2.

Top 10 teams will be shortlisted based on the marks allocated by the jury for the problem statement. The selected teams will then proceed to the final round.

Presentation: The final day of the event will also be held at NMIMS Mumbai Campus on October 14, 2017. Participants shall give a presentation for approximately 10-15 minutes on their findings in front of the jury members.

Based on the presentations, top 3 participants will be shortlisted and winners will be rewarded with cash prizes. Also, the job fair will be available on the last day of the event.

Prizes and Rewards

The winners will be awarded handy rewards. Following are the details of the cash prizes to be given to the winners:

  • Winner will be awarded a cash prize of INR 2,00,000.
  • The 1st runner-up will be given a cash prize of INR 1,50,000.
  • INR 1,00,000 will be given to the 2nd runner-up.

Note: Winner will also be awarded SAS sponsored trip to the USA to participate in the Global DAC Forum.
