Government Polytechnic at Karad is one of the oldest polytechnic institutes of Maharashtra. This institute is a part of an educational policy plan of the first chief minister of Maharashtra, late Y.B. Chauhan. The institute was established in 1957 at Ogalewadi and was offering the only diploma in civil engineering at the time of inception. From then on, it is expanding its area of reach till now by providing a diploma in six courses as of now. The institute is approved by AICTE, New Delhi and is affiliated to the Maharashtra State Board of technical education.

The duration of the diploma course is 3 years. The eligibility criteria for the diploma courses in Government polytechnic is mentioned below:
