The “GO IIT Bombay” fundraising campaign was first launched in the 2010 session to raise funds for initiatives that could not be supported by the existing institute's fundings.
The funds collected over the decade have helped the institute in upgrading the campus facilities and increasing its rankings among the premier technology institutions in the world.
GO IIT Bombay has received fundings and financial support from its alumni organizations- IIT Bombay Heritage Foundation (IITBHF) and IIT Bombay Alumni Association (IITBAA). Over the years, the institute has raised about $50 million in donations from 3,300 unique donors.

Thanking the alumni community, IIT Bombay Director, Subhasis Chaudhuri stated that the institute appreciates the support from its alumni organizations in every aspect of the welfare of students.
With the contribution received through GO IITB, the institute will be able to reach its goal of standing among the top 50 institutes in the world, the official statement stated.
"I would like to express gratitude for the funding we have received. It has helped us to stabilize very quickly," said Janani Sree Muralidharan, Assistant Professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, IIT Bombay.
In the recently released CAG 2021 report, eight IITs have been exposed to a lack of quality education and infrastructure on its campus ground which was inaugurated in 2008-09.
The newly established IITs, such as IIT Ropar, IIT Bhubaneswar, IIT Gandhinagar, IIT Hyderabad, IIT Indore, IIT Jodhpur, IIT Mandi, and IIT Patna have been found to have a shortage of facilities on campus ground, resulting in poor performance in CAG 2021.
Following the report, IITs were found to have an insufficient number of faculty on the campus, which further led to an increase in workload between the faculty members. The institute is now working towards recruiting quality faculty on the campus to make up for the vacancies.
While talking about the issues, IIT Bhubaneswar director Professor Raja Kumar said, “We receive a large number of applications for faculty positions but the recruitment cannot be done overnight. We, at IIT, cannot compromise with the quality of faculty".
