Ms. Rishi Dassani is working as the Head of Mathematics and Statistics Department at Kanoria PG Mahila Mahavidyalaya. She is having 10+ years of experience in the teaching field. She has qualified GATE in 2015 and has done M.Phil. and M.Sc. with Mathematics from Dungar College Bikaner affiliated by M.G.S. University, Bikaner. She has also done CCC Certification in Computer. What are your roles and responsibilities?

“To provide best learning and growing opportunities to them”

Being the Head of the Mathematics and Statistics department, my first responsibility towards students is to build a healthy and stress-less learning environment. After this, it’s my duty to make sure that students achieve their goals after completion of the program for which they have taken admission in my department. 

How do you establish a healthy relationship with the students and fellow faculty?

“By being truthful and providing them an open environment to communicate”

Trust and honesty are the most important things in a relationship. I always speak the truth with my students and fellow faculty. I always listen to their office as well as personal life-related problems and try to sort out them then and there. I never forget to be thankful to my students and faculty after the completion of any event or work conducted under my supervision. I give my faculties their own personal space and include their suggestions from time to time while planning activities for my department. 

How do you bring in a practical and industry-oriented approach towards subjects?

“Students are offered multiple research-based programs”

We conduct various kinds of surveys and market research through the questionnaires to make every subject more practical and industry-oriented. Because through these activities students get an opportunity to think out-of-the-box solutions for some real societal problems.

How do you strategize and update the curriculum to make it befitting for the students?

“Through offering knowledge of various software to students”

As my institution is affiliated with the university, we have no right to update the syllabus but I introduce my students to new software from time to time to enhance their practical knowledge.

What are your views on the placements and higher education of the students from your department?

“Our students are ahead in both of these areas”

As we all know that selection in various government statistical posts is not at all easy while considering today’s competitive world scenario. But I am glad to tell you that many students from our department get admission in various reliable institutes of the country every year and some also secure good positions into various government posts. 

How do you prepare your students to cope up with this competitive world?

“We provide guest sessions and seminars to them”

We conduct various carrier-oriented expert talks on a regular basis to make them aware of difficulty levels of competition and take assessments of previous year's question papers. Along with this, webinars and workshops on topics are conducted throughout the year. Some special classes are conducted keeping in mind various competitions exams. 

What extracurricular activities are organized in college to enhance the skills of the students? 

“Various hands-on training and learning activities are conducted by college”

We organize lots of extracurricular activities like quizzes, brainstorming competitions, guest lecturers, extension lectures, workshops, debates, extempore, etc. related to the subject and other practical problems for the overall development of our students. I also motivate them to participate in other competitions and activities so that they can evaluate their potential and can enhance their skills to achieve their goals. We conduct market surveys from time to time where a team of girls perform the project and submit the report as an assignment. 

What are the challenges you are facing to uplift the quality of education of your department?

“Attendance, lack of practical knowledge and language barriers are major constraints”

The first challenge is our student attendance in classrooms. Due to the competitive environment, students are busy in coaching for preparation. Lack of exposure regarding the subject is seen many times along with the language difficulty as the majority of students belongs to rural background. 

What are the approaches you bring in apart from curriculum to teach students?

“Guest lectures and hands-on knowledge is provided to them via workshops”

We offer extra training programs through experts and guest lectures and also conduct various workshops throughout the year to train the students.

Any valuable advice would you like to the students to have a prosperous career ahead? 

“Be a good human being and learn skills that can benefit you in long run”

First of all, I would like to advise the students to be a good human and keep humanity alive before doing anything. After that, I would suggest them to be honest, responsible and kind. Never be a part of the rush. Always try to create your own way and your own identity. Do little effort on a daily basis and it will surely make wonders in long run.
