Prof. Vijander Singh is a Dean Welfare Students at the Netaji Subhas University of Technology, New Delhi. He is working as Professor in Instrumentation and Control Engineering Division at the institute. His areas of research are Process Control, Biomedical Instrumentation, Artificial Intelligence, and Image Processing. He is a great guide to his students on every educational and personal hurdle.


What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?

“The opportunity to be a motivator and guide to the students of the Country”

I hold different positions in NSIT and now having different positions in NSUT also. My vast experience includes teaching different subjects and eagerness to learn new things and review different kinds of research papers which gives me pleasure in the real sense. I enjoy teaching and research with the students of UG, PG, and Ph.D., which is the main profession of a teacher and researcher. That’s why I am in this profession. 


What is your philosophy of leadership? How would you describe your leadership style?

“Administrated style for well-shaped planning and decorum for the institute”

The Chairman of any College or University should be a leader who can take the Institute to the next level of achievements. It includes the welfare of different stakeholders of the Institute such as students, faculty members, Officers, and staff members, and the society at large. The president should work in a team and lead the whole University in terms of teaching, research, projects, MoU with different institutions/industries and create the infrastructure as per the requirement to make the University a center of excellence. The Vice-Chancellor should be a team leader, good motivator, and administrator. 


How do you strategize about the key programs and plans for the marketing and administration of your school?

“The faculty members and students bringing up innovative ideas for creating awareness”

The main stakeholders of any University are students and teachers. Both stakeholders should be highly motivated and should have the feeling of healthy competition with each other in the Department/Institute so that the best output can be achieved. The teachers should polish the skills of students and Officer/administration should facilitate the students and teachers in every aspect of supports.


The education systems in India and other foreign countries are structured very differently. In your experience, what can an inbound student gain from studying here in your institute/ university/ school?

“The traditional touch to education only lies in India”

The education system in India is based on the moral and ethical values of the traditions of the society. The students learn in a supervised environment which makes them strong to take the challenges in their life. The students are prepared in technical knowledge of core subjects, coding, interfacing, and other challenges of the society.


How does the curriculum of your College ensure the best practice of the industry?

“A step towards experiential learning with several pieces of training and internships”

The syllabus of different programs should be upgraded regularly with the input of industry experts and different lectures and workshops of Industry experts should be conducted for the students to have proper tuning with the Industry. Teaching and research environment, extracurricular activities of students, Infrastructure, different facilities in campuses provided to students and teachers, training, and placement defines the curriculum of the University.

Any insights into how your university could be more welcoming to students of different races or economic backgrounds?

“The institute promotes unity and support to the economically backward students to access the quality education”

 Keeping given students with different economical backgrounds, the University has started a financial assistance scheme named Chhatra Vittiya Sahayata Evam Protsahan Kosh(CVSPK). In this scheme, the University has a talent Incentive scheme for bright and hard-working students. These students have to apply on the Govt. portal also so that the facility of Govt. facility should also be availed. The third scheme is the financial assistance scheme in case of earning parents’ demise.


What do you think your roles and responsibilities to the University and the students are?

“To provide the foremost facilitates and quality education to the student associated by the institute”

I feel my responsibility towards University in every aspect such as to support students in-class teaching and research, extracurricular activities, support in indoor/outdoor activities/conferences, motivation, etc. My role as a teacher is to provide proper guidance, polish their skills, and motivate the students for their goal achievements in the future. I should also safeguard the welfare of faculty members, Officers, administration, and staff members and as a whole safeguard the welfare of the University. 


What do you think should be the University’s top priority over the next 10 years?

“To hold a great team of faculties for the entire department to attain repute in the quality of education”

  • The top priority of the University should be to have a good number of teachers with an excellent academic record and to pass a very good number of quality students to serve society. 
  • To have very good publications/patents, 
  • To bring good projects to the University, 
  • To motivate the students for new startups, 
  • To make the University a Centre of excellence and to expand the University to its different wings.

When you first came to the institute, what was your vision for the university? Has it evolved, and how far along in implementing that vision are you?

“The institute that needed reputation but evolved to create a brand”

I joined NSIT in July 2007 and had a vision that NSIT should be a University and it should have full academic as well as administrative autonomy so that the Institute/University should grow at a different pace as it was at that time. NSUT has become University with state-of-art facilities and East and West campuses. The Intake of University has become more than double in the last two years by expanding into different Faculties and Departments. Good quality of research publications is being published by the University teachers and students. Many other facilities are being created in University and different milestones are being achieved day by day by the University.


What would you like people to know about your university they may not know?

“The name we carry for our education, curriculum, and sports facilities”

The University should be known by its brand name, quality students, teachers, state-of-the-art facilities, research publications, patents, and support provided to students and teachers.

Any suggestions you would like to give to the current youth and the aspiring students?

“Hard work is the key to attain success”

Every student should believe in hard work and its credibility. 


What are some plans that you’re currently (or will be) designing for College regarding international affairs for students?

“Opportunity to provide students for exchange and international education”

 The University has started a new scheme i.e. Chhatra Vittiya Sahayata evam Protsahan Kosh (CVSPK) where a talent incentive scheme is launched to motivate the students seeking admission abroad in the Universities of good ranks. 


How do you tend to establish a healthy relation and environment in your institute?

“Participation and involvement in several activities to create a developmental atmosphere”

The students are free to interact with teachers and can have the subjects of their choice. The students also enjoy participating in different societies, physical education, and other activities to develop an overall personality.
