Millia Institute of Technology HOD: Mr MD Ajaz Alam

MD Ajaz Alam is Assistant Professor and HOD of Electrical Engineering at Millia Institute of Technology, Purnea, Bihar. He has completed M.Tech from a prestigious technical institute. His area of interest is Power Systems, Process and Control, and High Voltage Engineering. His publications are in the field of Modelling Simulation and Validation of Duct Air Heating systems. The courses that he teaches in the college are Basic Electrical Engineering (BEE), Power System-I (PS-I), Power System-II (PS-II), Protection of Power Apparatus and System (PPAS) Network Theory NT). 

What are your roles and responsibilities towards the students?

"Department heads are responsible for ensuring smooth operations and assessing student performance”

Department heads are responsible for their departments. Monitoring, leading, and managing overall operations performed by students is their responsibility. Subjects should be allotted to faculty members well before the semester or year begins. HOD must ensure that class timetables are prepared according to the principal's guidelines, and notify faculty members and students one day prior to the start of class. 

How do you tend to establish healthy relations with the students and fellow faculty?

“Support your teammates and remain positive at all times” 

HOD should follow these important points in order to establish healthy relations with the students which are like as

How do you try to bring in a practical approach towards subjects?

“Practical assignments are often carried out in groups which helps to inculcate social values”

Practical and industry-oriented engineering courses build a foundation that helps students in their careers after graduation. Internships play an important role in developing this mindset. Teaching and engineering are skill-based subjects. The importance of practical knowledge over theoretical knowledge is greater in these subjects. Practical work includes experiments in laboratories, study tours, projects, assignments, etc. The benefits of practical work are unmatched. Students cannot benefit from theoretical knowledge until they can apply it in the real world.

What are the best practices offered by the department to the students?

“An Industry Advisory Board that establishes strong industry links, conducts workshops, and holds FDPs”

An Industry Advisory Board has been formed at the college with the objective of strengthening industry connections, conducting workshops, FDPs, and providing suggestions for process and curriculum improvements. A student's success in college is often dependent on a variety of factors, including family support, academic preparedness, life skills, and decision-making abilities. 

How do you strategize the curriculum and how often it gets updated?

“Deciding goals and objectives for an improved pedagogy”

A strategy for curriculum review is based on the use of goals and objectives. The strategy involves the selection of a set of goals, their specification as objectives, and their arrangement in a hierarchy of goals and objectives. Also, the setting of levels of competence for each goal and objective. The students use it to develop their understanding of the content. We encourage students to participate in discussions. Our faculties explain the concepts using prototypes or 3-D visualization software. 

What has been your vision for the growth of this institute?

"To provide students with a high-quality education while simultaneously learning and contributing"

A vision isn't just a wish, a dream, or a hope. This is a representation of real-world outcomes from real-world efforts. The future finds its way into the present, enlivening and informing it. I have assisted businesses and individuals in reaching their goals for twenty years. Visioning has been the most effective tool that I have encountered. With the goal of providing life-long learning to my students, I wanted to deliver high-quality education. With my skill set and experience, I am able to keep punctuality and dedication.
