Fanshawe is the closest college in my area. I also previously attended Fanshawe for other programs so it was a good choice especially considering it is easy to transfer internal credits so that they are applied to my current program.
Course Curriculum :
The curriculum is great. There is a lot of information that we must learn, so it is very condensed. The workload can be stressful, but it is manageable. There are a lot of times where we are in clinical so we get a lot of learning experience from shadowing nurses in the hospital and the community.
Exams :
I did not have to take any entrance exams to be accepted into the nursing program, however, I did have to complete a prerequisite science program and maintain a 3.5 GPA or above in order to get in.
Fees :
You are required to pay the full amount of tuition by the tenth day of class each semester. On top of tuition, books can be costly, but you generally get a lot of use out of them (the fundamentals of the nursing book is used for many classes). You have to buy your own scrubs and shoes for clinical. You don't have to buy your own stethoscope or other supplies like that as the school does provide you with them, however, most people end up purchasing their own. Parking for clinical can also be expensive if you drive, but often students will carpool and split the costs.
Examination Structure :
Usually, midterms start around the fifth week of class and can last up until around the twelfth week. There are times where there will be only one midterm a week, but sometimes there can be two or three in a week, as well as other assignments due. The final exam week is usually scheduled to have one exam per day.
Faculty :
The faculty for the school of nursing is amazing. They have all worked as nurses themselves, and have since taken teaching up as their full-time profession. It is great that they have the practical knowledge to pass down to us, and they are always welcoming to any questions we may have.
