All graduate students working toward the completion of graduate degrees in Communication Sciences and Disorders must meet the academic and clinical practicum requirements for the ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence in their area of emphasis (Speech-Language Pathology or Audiology) by the end of their degree program. The ASHA requirements may be waived for international students. In addition, all graduate students are required to pass a comprehensive examination in the final semester of their graduate study. The Communication Sciences and Disorders faculty will determine the content, form, and the length of the examination. Specific academic and clinical practicum requirements for the degrees and national certification are contained in the department?s Student Handbook. Consult your advisor or the department chairperson.

Academic Requirements:

  • Applicants must have a bachelors degree in communication and disorders from an accredited university
  • Submit official transcripts of all previous education completed
  • Official transcripts need to be evaluated by NACES agency
  • Applicants must have minimum GPA of 3.0 in undergraduate and 3.0 in graduate coursework, if any
  • Submit a statement of purpose and resume
  • Submit three letters of recommendation out of which one should be professional from persons familiar with the strengths, weaknesses and work ethic of applicant
  • Complete criminal background check after acceptance
  • Submit English language proficiency test scores

English Language Requirements:

  • TOEFL: minimum score of 79 in iBT; 550 in PBT; 8.5 in essentials
  • IELTS: minimum 6.0
  • PTE: minimum 53
