Bachelor of Science in Materials Engineering at the University of California Los Angeles is a 4-year program.
It is an on-campus program offered on a full-time basis.
This program builds on the foundation of materials science and is concerned with the design, fabrication, and optimal selection of engineering materials that must simultaneously fulfill dimensional, property, quality control, and economic requirements.
It is designed for students who desire a broad understanding of the relationship between microstructure and properties of materials.
There are two areas of specialization for undergraduate students in Materials Science and Engineering. Both offer Bachelor of Science degrees.
In both cases, students are encouraged to take elective courses in advanced materials, as well as classes in presentation skills and undergraduate research opportunities.
The materials engineering program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).

Students undertake two individual projects involving materials selection, treatment, and serviceability.
Students learn and work independently and practice leadership and teamwork in and across disciplines. They are also expected to communicate effectively in oral, graphic, and written forms.
The materials engineering program is designed for students who wish to pursue a professional career in the materials field and desire a broad understanding of the relationship between microstructure and properties of materials.
The department consists of 15 faculty members, 14 research labs and centers, and 122 undergraduate students.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Academic Eligibility:

Students must either be in the final year of secondary school or have already completed secondary school studies to get admission in this program.
Students must have a background in basic math, physics, and geology and advanced coursework specialized in geophysics.
A GPA of 3.4 (B+ grade) out of 4.0 is required in the last two years of the studies.

Indian Student Eligibility:

Indian students are eligible to apply if they meet the following eligibility criteria:

Students are expected to complete Year X and Year XII state board exams.
The competitive students typically achieve high marks, primarily A1 and A2 grades or scores above 80.
students must complete both year X and XII state board or CBSE examinations, with average marks above 70 and no mark below 60.

Along with the minimum eligibility requirements, international students hailing from non-English speaking countries need to prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/any equivalent test to get admission to this program.
