The mission of the program at Wright State University is to prepare students to become advanced generalist social work professionals. Advanced generalist practice emphasizes effective practice and policy skill development to promote diversity and cultural competency, social and economic justice, reduce oppression, and improve the broader human condition. Students graduating with a Master of Arts in Social Work from this joint program will be prepared to work in direct practice and administrative social work positions in private and public settings helping clients across the lifespan meet their basic human needs. MASW graduates are also eligible to become Licensed Social Workers (LSW) and Licensed Independent Social Workers (LISW) in the state of Ohio

Full-time (2 years), part-time (3-4 years), or advanced standing (3 semesters) programs are offered to admittedgraduate students.  Classes are taught on Miami University's Middletown campus with a few classes scheduled on the WSU main campus.Both universities appear on the graduate's diploma.

Under the Advanced Generalist Concentration, students choose electives from two Concentration Focus Areas: 1) Families and Children or 2) Older Adults. Students in the advanced standing program will complete 500 hours of field education; all other students will complete 900 hours of field education over the course of the program.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Academic Requirements:

  • A bachelors degree from an accredited university os required
  • A minimum GPA of 2.75 on a scale of 4.0 is required for all previous undergraduate courses
  • A minimum GPA of 3.0 on a scale of 4.0 is required in social work or behavourial sciences
  • Submit official transcripts from other universities and colleges attended
  • Submit scores of GMAT
  • Submit 3 letters of recommendation, one from college professor and other from employer if graduated within last five years
  • If student has graduated since more than five years, one letter should be from the employer and others from faculty members or employers
  • Personal statement describing about your understanding of social work and past experience

English Language Requirements:

  • TOEFL: minimum 79/120 in IBT
  • IELTS: minimum 6.0 band
  • PTE: minimum 57
