I visited friends at this college during my senior year of high school and fell in love with the campus. The admissions process was fairly simple. I always felt supported and encouraged to apply. I applied to 11 different colleges actually, as I was nervous I would not get accepted into many colleges. I ended up getting accepted to 9 out of 11 colleges but ultimately decided on unh. I felt the program here really supported its students and truly wanted them to succeed and this was massively important to me. I did not feel this at any of the other colleges I was accepted into.
Course Curriculum :
I believe the curriculum here is amazing. We start freshman year taking basic anatomy and psychology classes. Sophomore year we start clinical rotations, which is pretty unique to UNH. Most programs do not start clinical until junior year. From here, the majority of our classes are nursing-specific classes.
Exams :
The nursing program here at UNH is highly selective, as is the case at many other colleges. High SAT scores and GPA definitely increases your chances of admission, however, I believe my personal essay also played a big part. I entered the program with a high school GPA of 3.9 and the minimum GPA changes from year to year, however, it was 3.5 when I applied.
Placement :
We have career fairs quite regularly, and having clinical rotations helps me to make relationships with hospitals that I may be interested in working at. Nurses at UNH usually are placed within a year of graduating as nurses are desperately needed in the US.
Internship :
I have not taken advantage of these so I do not have first-hand experience. One drawback is that the minimum wage in NH is pretty low, so most jobs do not pay much. Many students find off-campus jobs such as babysitting and nannying that pay better.
Fees :
Currently out of state tuition+room and board is about $55,000. I received a $4,000 director scholarship from the school. The criteria that comes with this scholarship is that I must maintain a 3.7 GPA or higher throughout the semester in order to be awarded the scholarship. This was the second-highest academic scholarship available.
Scholarship :
I have received a $4,000 scholarship.
Examination Structure :
The exam structure is fairly standard. Most exams are taken on scantron papers and range from 50-75 questions with an average of 4 exams per class per semester.
Faculty :
I believe the majority of faculty here at UNH truly want their students to succeed, which I find very important. If a student is struggling, professors make it their duty to provide office hours and occasionally extra credit to support them.
Hostel :
I currently live on campus in a dorm room with one roommate. It's definitely smaller than I am used to, however not too bad at all. Sometimes it's difficult for me to keep a healthy diet because the dining hall food is very good! I overeat often but have been trying to limit myself!
