Abigail Higgins Review at Baylor University, Waco | Collegedunia

Baylor is great on academics

AH
7.5 /10

Combination of Academics and scholarships. Baylor had a good honours college with a flexible degree program, it was a faith-based school, and they basically paid me to go there. The residential college community was also good.

Course Curriculum :

My degree plan was a kind of make-it-yourself so this does not really apply. I did not have general education requirements but was able to select areas of concentration. This suited me very well, so my opinion is high.

Placement :

The placement seemed good. I got into multiple graduate programs when I applied, and the grad program I am in now has good luck with placing graduates in jobs in a very tight hiring market. So I am hopeful.

Internship :

There are on-campus jobs available to undergraduates. They pay low hourly rates. I did not have an internship through the university, but I worked as a student worker during the summers and a tutor during the school year. As a grad student now, I have a fellowship.

Events :

Homecoming, Christmas, Easter, a special university-specific holiday called Dia del Oso. Different student organizations would put on festivals and activities throughout the year also that were celebrated.

Fees :

The tuition is pretty high, given that Baylor is a private university. I think tuition is around 36,000 a year. I never paid for it. Fees are charged above that, as well as a mandatory meal plan and housing for at least freshmen.

Scholarship :

I had a lot of financial aid. My tuition was all paid for, with an additional 6000 scholarship from the honours college, a 1000 scholarship from some sort of baptist heritage fund, a 2000 scholarship from National Merit, and I think another scholarship too of around 2500. Additionally, when I studied abroad for a semester, I was given another 4000.

Examination Structure :

The exams vary from class to class. I get the sense that the professors are usually in charge of picking their own format. Some were essay-based, some multiple-choice, and some professors opted to not have them.

Faculty :

The faculty at Baylor are outstanding. My experience is with humanities professors, and all of them that I met seemed to really care about their students, to know their specialized areas well, and to be good teachers.

Hostel :

I lived in a residential college on campus for my first three years. I shared a dorm room with another girl, and we had a shared bathroom with another room. My senior year, I moved off-campus and into an apartment.
