Baylor University

CC
7.8 /10

The programs offered are extraordinary, the community is tight yet still has that larger school atmosphere, it's just far enough from home to feel independent yet not unreachable in case of an emergency, and the value is good considering scholarships and financial aid.

Course Curriculum :

I'm a part of the Baylor Interdisciplinary Core which is a different curriculum compared to those not in the Honors College, and I love it. All of my classes connect and are related to each other and integrate aspects of many subjects within the courses.

Exams :

I took the ACT with a score of 30. I did not take any university level exams prior to acceptance.

Placement :

I do not have an on-campus job, but I understand that work-study and upperclassmen are favored when given jobs, and especially when it comes to how many hours they work a week. A senior would be given more priory in the schedule than a freshman.

Internship :

They do offer an abundance of internship opportunities but I have not partaken in any just yet, as I am a first-year student. I plan to start looking more into these in the future of my student career.

Events :

Football season is a fun time, especially homecoming. There are many student, family, and public events throughout that week including a bonfire and a parade. Christmas on 5th street is also fun, they bring in vendors, inflatables, the language departments conduct a caroling show and there is a grand tree lighting!

Fees :

Tuition is the heftiest chunk of fees, the housing is also pretty pricey, hence why I'm planning to move off campus this coming year. However, books are not as expensive as other schools if you purchase them used from the bookstore or rent.

Scholarship :

I have both financial aid and scholarships, the process isn't too complicated. Make sure to send in the FASFA on time and I believe scholarships favor early applicants so don't wait until the last minute. There are a few short essays involved but it's not too difficult.

Examination Structure :

The exam structure is generally good. I have yet to have more than two major exams in one day however I know people who have had more. Midterms approach pretty fast and finals can be stressful but Baylor offers opportunities for students to ensure they're taking care of themselves while simultaneously preparing them for exams.

Faculty :

The faculty is amazing and is willing to go out of their way to support you and ensure you're receiving the best education, however, it's expected that you do your part as a student and uphold that hardworking standard.

Hostel :

I live on campus currently in Heritage House, which is one of the most recently renovated houses so it's pretty nice. I'm on the fourth floor so the kitchen is right across from me, and there's laundry on every floor. I plan to move into a nearby apartment complex this coming year because it's more affordable than on-campus housing.
