Just as the Founding Fathers drew on the classics to establish our great nation, Hillsdale offers the study of ancient Latin and Greek civilizations to give you a vital tool for understanding our evolving world. This program provides a comprehensive, in-depth knowledge of classical cultures and languages, and how they have influenced modern political science, religion, philosophy, and literature. Classics is offered as both a major and minor.

The study of the languages and civilization of Greece and Rome gives the student a unique insight into the Western heritage. Basic knowledge of classical antiquity is virtually indispensable for any in-depth study in politics, religion, philosophy or literature. The analytical training of classics, moreover, gives the student excellent and widely recognized preparation for a broad variety of professions.
