IIT Kanpur MTech admissions are based on GATE Score followed by COAP counselling. For IIT Kanpur MTech Admission 2024, GATE Registrations are over. The admit cards will be released on January 03, 2024.

IIT Kanpur offers MTech program for a duration of 2 years divided into 4 semesters. The program is offered in 17 specializations and admissions are based on GATE Score. The final seat allocation will be done as per the COAP 2024 counselling and seat allocation. For the year 2023, IIT Kanpur has undergone a total 10 rounds of COAP counselling. The cutoff by marks for IIT Kanpur MTech Photonics for the general category remained 741. 

IIT Kanpur also offers MTech students a mandatory summer internship for a period of 2-3 months at the end of the first year. IIT Kanpur MTech students are also required to do a year-long thesis work to get a good grasp on their chosen subjects.

• Candidates that are willing to seek admission in M. Tech program at IIT Kanpur should have a bachelor’s degree in engineering or science (4-years program) or a master’s degree in science with marks or CPI not below 6.5 on a 10-point scale.
• A valid GATE score is required for seeking admission here for regular candidates (non-sponsored). Students belonging to B. Tech. or BS program from IITs with a minimum CPI of 6.5 and a minimum CPI of 8.0 in the 7th and 8th semesters.
• Candidates belonging to the Scheduled Castes/ Scheduled Tribes groups who have passed the basic degree program only are also eligible to apply for this program irrespective of their merit.
• There are around 09 specializations, each specialization holds different eligibility criteria.

IIT Kanpur MTech Admission 

Admissions for the MTech programs are entrance-based. The admission details and notice will be displayed to students who qualify GATE through the Common Offer Acceptance Portal (COAP). Check GATE IIT Counselling. Steps to apply are as follows:

• Students need to register at the COAP portal to view and accept their respective offers. 
• The COAP registrations are free of cost. 
• Aspirants must download the COAP 2023 information brochure and follow the guidelines mentioned at http://coap.iitm.ac.in for participation. 
• The COAP registration number is mandatory for candidates to seek admission at IIT Kanpur.
• The application fee is INR 400 for general candidates, whereas, for candidates who belong to SC, ST, OBC minority groups have to pay INR 200 as an application fee. Foreign students need not pay any application fees.
• Candidates belonging to India have to apply through online mode only. Foreign candidates can apply through offline mode as well.

GATE 2024 COAP Registration Process

After passing the GATE entrance exam, candidates are to register for the COAP counseling process to secure their admission into IITs, NITs, and other participating institutes. COAP provides a common platform for the registered candidates to make the most preferred choice for admission into an MTech Program in the participating Institutes. 

Eligibility Criteria to Register for COAP 2024

1. The candidate must be a citizen of India.
2. Candidates should have a valid GATE score from 2024/2023/2022.

GATE 2024 COAP Step by Step Registration Process:

The candidates can successfully apply for GATE COAP 2024 by simply following the below:

Step 1: Visit the official website of COAP @ coap.iitd.ac. and click on the registration link.

Step 2: Fill in details such as their GATE Registration Number, GATE Paper Code, GATE score, date of birth.

Step 3: Click on the “Validate” icon and enter the registered email id and mobile number.

Step 4:Click on the “Submit to Register” button.

Step 5: After the registration is successfully done for COAP 2024, the candidates will obtain a Login ID and Password for COAP Login. The same will be sent via Email and SMS.

Step 6: The COAP registration will only be considered as complete only if the candidates log in using the Login ID and Password and verify the registration details.

Step 7: After the completion of the above-given steps, the candidate can access the information on offers made from the participating Institutes.

Step 8: In the end, the admission offer will be uploaded at COAP website and will be tagged with COAP registration number (same as GATE registration number without subject code).

Summer Internship: 

The 2-year MTech program requires students to do a compulsory summer internship at the end of the first year between May-July for a period of two to three months.
