How's the placement at IIM Lucknow?

IIM Lucknow is known for its lack of transparency and highly confidential placements. The reason was disclosed by one of my friends who was a victim of this secrecy. According to him, the figures revealed are that of just 150 students who get placed at good firms. They receive packages of around INR 20 LPA. The rest 300-400 students either land very low-paying jobs and most of them even stand unplaced. This cruelty is not brought to light by the authorities and placement committees. The placement committees are the ones to be blamed for this partiality. It is said that they are highly involved in collecting heavy fines from students to get them placed. This makes it difficult for financially weak or morally upright students to get placed despite their talents and efficiency. Usually, the average CTC is lower than other IIMs and is thus never revealed to the public. So to get placed in IIM Lucknow you have to get involved in wrongdoings and illegal stuff which is not recommended.

Does a work experience of 4 years reduce my chances of getting certain jobs during placements at IIM Lucknow?

People with more than four years of experience were given one of the best placements at IIM Lucknow. You should remember that your work, experience, and area of interest are always factors in your placements. Indeed, work experience, whether relevant or irrelevant, is always a plus. The reasons for this are straightforward: You know the industry better than any newcomer. Youve been exposed to corporate culture, so youre definitely cultured. Whatever work you have done up to this point has undoubtedly taught you people management skills. You have an advantage over freshmen on campus, but you must also make good use of your campus time. Yes, jobs in sales, FMCG, and so on are unlikely to shortlist you. You will almost certainly receive shortlists from consulting firms, marketing profiles, and finance profiles.

Which is the best among IIM Lucknow, Kozhikode, FMS and MDI (mainly in terms of placement and learning)? Commerce background with good academic background and 3 years experience.

Having read some reviews online about IIM Lucknow, IIM Kozhikode, FMS, and MDI, here are some things I got to know which might be useful to you. IIM Lucknow and IIM Kozhikode both are older brands. They have a proper recruiter base, alumni network, campus life, infrastructure, and better placements. FMS also offers low-cost and decent placement facilities, but students of FMS claim to have no campus life and any eventful experience. MDI is considered to be decent. Thankfully they have a better and more happening campus life, unlike FMS. Bain Capability Network recruits at MDI while Bain & Co. go to the other mentioned colleges. So the order of preference would be IIM Lucknow > IIM Kozhikode > FMS > MDI. This is as per the major rankings including Times B-School categorization. So select the one that matches most of your interests.

Can a person graduating from IIMs like LIK and even the new IIMs like Ranchi and Trichy ever catch up to the graduates from ABC and get a similar package?

There are three categories in which the answer can be seen: Students who have graduated from IIM LIK can catch up to IIM ABC relatively easily or may end up at the same level by the end of their postgraduate program. IIM Trichy will eventually catch up with IIM LIK, though it may take around 5 years. IIM Ranchi, on the other hand, will take longer to reach the same level. IIM LIK catching up with IIM ABC may take 3-8 years. With the presence of good FMCG/Consulting/Financial Services Companies, a jump or two could bring them to the same level. IIM Trichy and Ranchi will take a very long time to catch up with IIM ABC in this category. The top 10% of students from IIM LIK and IIM ABC evolved as toppers after at least 18 months of hard work. There will be a significant difference between anyone in this category, regardless of whether they are from IIM ABC or LIK. While there may be a difference in starting packages due to the reputation of the institute, it will be made up for in subsequent years. It is not clear how long it will take for students from IIM Trichy or Ranchi to reach this level.

What is the placement scenario and scope of the IIM PGP Agri Business Management (ABM) program in general and with special reference to IIM Lucknow?

With specifics to IIM Lucknow, Agri-Business Management (ABM) course, you get to study extra subjects each trimester related to Agribusiness. In the final year, there is a restriction in choosing the major subjects. As for placements, you will be offered the same opportunities as any other PGP student. Agribusiness in general has a very wide scope. According to the placement statistics of the 2018-20 batch at IIM Lucknow, the median salary was 23 LPA and the highest salary (international) was 58.47 LPA. The institute had 100% placement and more than 140 domestic and international recruiters joined the campus placement. Some of the top recruiters from various sectors were HSBC, Microsoft, GE, Asian paints, HUL, PNG, Amazon, American Express, Ola, Ernst & Young, Flipkart, etc. Operations/IT, Strategy/Consulting, General Management, Sales & Marketing, Finance were the top sectors in which students got placed.

How good is IIM Lucknow PGPSM course in terms of placement?

One of my friends is enrolled in the same course in IIM Lucknow and he is in the first batch. According to him pursuing PGPSM course from IIM Lucknow is the right choice due to certain factors which include good placement opportunities primarily. Furthermore, as the course is newly introduced, the number of students is also limited. This gives them the best opportunities to get placed in top companies. Most of the students have been placed with companies like PwC, EY, KPMG. The job offered by these companies is in different sectors like climate change, business advisory, and many more. Apart from that, companies in the Energy field like Mytrah Energy and Vikram Solar also offered different roles to aspiring candidates. There are job opportunities in sectors like sales and marketing, business development, finance, banking as well. You will not be confined to your department and will constantly interact with other departments as well. There are satisfactory packages and placement provided in IIM Lucknow in comparison with other B-Schools in India offering the same course. Even this fact can’t be ignored that it is only the first batch, so there are chances that the number of students in a single batch will increase and also the number of recruiting companies which will definitely make PGPSM one of the most successful courses in IIM Lucknow.

I have got admission from IIM Lucknow and I am expecting to convert from FMS Delhi. I am aware of the ROI and average salaries. Which one should I choose? What are campus life and job offers like?

You should definitely attend IIM Lucknow rather than FMS Delhi. IIM is a brand, a distinguishing mark that will stay with you for the rest of your life. You never give up the IIM tag for FMS, no matter how much it costs. The FMS campus has a dingy canteen the size of a bungalow, women dressed in glittery clothing roaming around, and plenty of heat and dust. There are also no hostels. You must take a PG if you go there. Food will be provided by the PG and nearby vendors. In terms of finances, IIML fees are not comparable to Harvard fees. If you have given money to coaching institutes, you can certainly afford IIML. You may need to take out a loan, but you can certainly afford it. Anyway, back to culture and way of life. In comparison to FMS, IIMs are king-size. Acres of land, well-kept cultivated greenery, a clean campus, and tasty mess food. Any IIM mess is better than most engineering colleges mess, and Lucknows Mess is delicious. The sports complex includes a large swimming pool, Jacuzzi, steam bath, large courts, and other amenities. Every two months, there will be massive student festivals where you can interact with students from other IIMs. Youll get a free membership to a nearby club where you can wine and dine. The student exchange program with Europe at IIM Lucknow is fantastic. You have the opportunity to study alongside international students and make friends from all over the world. During the IIM Lucknow summer placements for the 2022-24 batch, 570 job offers were made and over 185 recruiters visited the campus. Aside from that, the highest and average stipends offered during summer placements at IIM Lucknow for the 2022-24 batch were INR 3.5 lakh per month and INR 1.41 lakh per month, respectively.

Well, the placements procedure in IIM Lucknow (IIM-L) is really good and has maintained a decent record throughout the years. Thereby, it can be concluded that the student should always be focused on the target to get placement by hook or by crook, although favouritism is always there. Infact, this will help you to be prepared for working in the real corporate world. So, the students should be ready to always excel in their educational performance to secure the best placement.
