Ques. Who is the most friendly professor in IIT Madras? Why?

● Top Answer By Anubhav Sinha on 23 Jul 21

According to one of my friends, who is an alumnus of IIT Madras, it is Prof. C Balaji from Mechanical Engineering Department. He is an amicable person and is very understanding towards students. In fact, he is the coolest professor that you will ever meet. You can give him thousands of reasons for being late to the class or feeling sleepy during the lectures and yet, he will listen calmly and try understanding your problem. He will rather crack a joke on it. You can share anything with him without any second thought. He will attentively listen to it and give you some valuable feedback. It is pretty evident from this that he is more of a friend than a professor....Read more

Ques. How is it to have V. Balakrishnan (IIT Madras) as a teacher?

● Top Answer By Kushal Mohan on 23 Jul 21

According to my friends studying at IIT Madras, attending Mr. Balki's classes are really exciting. You simply just don't want any of it to get over. Professor V. Balakrishnan is like the Feynman (a US physicist) of the present times. He indulges with the concepts of mathematics and intuition uniquely. This makes the students grasp important concepts easily. The total number of topics which he has worked upon and the number of courses he has offered are surely remarkable. Personally, for one of my friends, Mr. Balki's lectures have had a life-changing impact on him. Learning from his lectures on topics like Classical Mechanics and Quantum Mechanics on YouTube had made him switch his career from the engineering domain to physics. Although my friend did not have the opportunity to attend a lot of his lectures. But delivered a seminar and Mr. Balki was in the audience at IIT M. If you have even a little amount of interest in the domain of Physics, attending Mr. Balki’s lectures would simply fascinate you....Read more

Ques. How is processor "Shakti"by IIT Madras different from that of Intel and ARM?

● Top Answer By Sayantan Ray on 22 Jul 21

As far as my knowledge goes, this is probably not the same. From what most people know, ARM is an old RISC processor. X86 is the older scaled-down version and as far as Shakti is concerned, it is a RISC-V processor which is a later version of the ARM (Acorn’s RISC Machine). It also follows the same concepts. This probably means that if you are planning to do something new with Shakti, it would not have the outdated RISC label to it. Talking solely about Shakti, it is mostly used as an exercise to demonstrate its ability to do design work and build processors in our country. The bar set here is quite low. They should make Silicon like the one at TSMC and that would probably have a much more lasting impact. This will possibly take some time but they will be there soon....Read more

Ques. Who are the best professors at IIT Madras?

● Top Answer By Anuradha Bose on 23 Jul 21

My brother went to IIT Madras and according to him, all professors are intellectual powerhouses. Here are some of his personal favorite professors in no particular order: Dr. Pramod S Mehta- IC Engines Lab: Dr. Mehta’s classes are adorning. He teaches everything from the basics and in an elementary manner leaving no room for doubts. Everyone is at the same level of learning in his classes. He makes the classes engaging and interactive. His quizzes and assignments are intriguing and interesting. Dr. A Ramesh- IC Engines Lab: His classes are also very engaging. He teaches everything in simple terms making it easy to grasp. Once you attend his classes, you hardly need to revise those topics. Dr. Parag Ravindran- Machine Design Section: A very humble and polite teacher who teaches some of the hardest subjects in a very easy and simple way. He pays a lot of attention to achieving perfection in his subjects. Dr. V Raghu Prakash- Machine Design Section: You will be amazed by his knowledge regarding anything and everything. Everything was just at his fingertips. Dr. Ratna Kumar Annabatulla- Machine Design Section: Always energetic. He works hard so that his students understand his subject well. He teaches everything from the basics without assuming that students have any kind of knowledge regarding it. Dr. Seshadri Sekhar- Machine Learning Section: A very kind-hearted professor who cares for everyone. He is students’ favorite because of his helpful nature and his interactive classes. Dr. Narasimhan Swaminathan: He is one of the youngest professors but, one of the best when it comes to teaching. He will make you ponder upon anything that he teaches. Dr. S P Venkateshan: He is an emeritus professor. His love for mathematics is beyond description. His classes help in a great way in imparting and establishing concepts. Hope this helps....Read more
