Remarks :
I took BITSAT for admission to BITS. The admission process consists of us filling out a preference sheet involving all the branches and the order in which priority we have to set. After that, approximately 7 iterations occur. In the 4th iteration you have to report to the campus alloted to you. If in the next iteration campus changes, you will have to report to the next campus before a set amount of time. The cut-off is in the website of BITS. The application form fee was approximately 2500 for me. No reservation benefits are given. I would like to change this process of reporting to different campuses after different iterations. We should only report after the final iteration.
Course Curriculum Overview :
I chose this course because I am interested in electronics and this is the branch where I got my marks. The faculty-student ratio varies with different subjects but on average in lectures, the ratio is 1:100 and in Tutorials it's 1:40. The faculty are really qualified with many of them having PhDs from top colleges like IITs, NITs, and many foreign universities. The midsems were taken on time and the syllabus was completed on time too. Overall the midsems were moderately difficult with some subjects being on the easier side but others being quite hard.
Internships Opportunities :
Our internship is called Practice School. We have both Practice School 1 and Practice School 2 wherein students get paid in Practice School 2. A lot of companies visit our campus like Amazon, Texas Instruments, Qualcomm, etc. The average stipend for the last year was around 1 lakh per month.
Placement Experience :
From the 7th semester, you get eligible for placements. A total of 83 companies visited our campus including Nvidia, Texas Instruments, Amazon, etc. The highest package was about 60 lakhs given by Amazon. The average package ranged from about 15-18lakh rs. 94 percent of students got placed as of last year. I plan to work in corporate after getting the degree.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
The fee structure is mainly divided into tuition fees, hostel fees, mess fees, and other advances. The fee hike is approximately 5 percent per year. For the whole 4 years, including a fee hike, it costs approximately 28 lakhs to study in this college. There are 2 types of scholarships:- Merit scholarship: The top 1 percent of academic performers get a 100% fee waiver in the next semester and the next 2 percent get a 40% fee waiver. Merit cum need scholarship:- Those whose family income is below a certain point get this scholarship. This is more liberal and easier to get. Top 5-10 percent get 100 % scholarship and the following 10 percent get 80% scholarship and so on. Students can apply for Teaching assistant positions and the average pay is 3000-5000 per month
Campus Life :
Annually 3 fests occur. Atmos which is the tech-fest and is held in November Arena which is the sports fest Pearl which is the cultural fest. The classrooms are really modern with a lot of space, air conditioning, 2 big blackboards with a big projector screen in between. For the first year, you can also get recordings of lectures on a website called impartus. There are 2 football grounds 2 basketball courts, 2 Tennis courts, 2 badminton courts, 1 swimming pool, 1 squash room, 1 chess room, 1 carrom room, 1 Table tennis room, 1 cue sports room. Overall the sports facilities are really topnotch with a gym spanning 2 floors. All the social groups, clubs, and websites are run by the students.
