Remarks :
I gave the JEE Advanced exam, one of the toughest exams in India. My JEE Advanced Rank was 13092. During JOSSA counselling, I got IIT Hyderabad, Civil Engineering. The admission process was completely online and it was quite a smooth process. The admission fee was around 2 lakhs. I did not avail of any reseravation benefits, I took admission in the general category.
Course Curriculum Overview :
Based on my rank, this was the best I was getting. Also, my brother is a Civil Engineer, so he guides me wherever possible. The student: faculty ratio is 55:4. Most of the faculty members are PhDs from foreign universities and few are from Indian universities too. Their teaching style is quite good and is mostly based on a practical basis. So, the exams are moderately difficult and it mainly depends on the professor. So, there are mid-sem exams and end-sem exams. There are surprise quizzes too.
Internships Opportunities :
There are summer internships (SURE). Companies such as Microsoft and Maruti offer this. Some students may be offered a stipend depending on project funds available with respective faculty members. This will be communicated to you at the time of selection. The typical cost of self-supporting yourself (meals and hostel accommodation) for 8 weeks is about Rs. 12000/-.
Placement Experience :
Students become eligible for campus placements in the 6th semester. The highest and average package offered was INR 65.46 LPA and INR 20.46 LPA during IIT Hyderabad placements in 2023, respectively. Out of 781 and 666 registered for placements. As per the placement statistics 2023, 141 companies released job offers during the IIT Hyderabad placement drive 2023 which included companies like Microsoft, Amazon, Samsung, Maruti Suzuki, etc. My plan after getting the degree is to get into a tech job.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
Compared to other IITs, the semester fee of IIT Hyderabad is 1.5 lakhs which are little high. There is no fee hike policy here. Based on your parental income category, you do have scholarships like tuition fee waiver in which you just have to pay hostel and mess charges, (only for SC/ST). Then there is also a scholarship in which if you get above a certain CGPA (around 8.5), you get around 1000 per month.
Campus Life :
Elan and nvision is the annual techno-cultural fest of IIT Hyderabad. It is mostly conducted in February. It is one of the biggest fests in South India. Life on the campus is really good and the infrastructure is the highlight here. The campus is still under construction. The new Library is a sight to watch. We have a lot of clubs here such as Sunshine which looks after the mental health of students and helps them in need, then there is E Cell which is the entrepreneur cell which encourages young minds to innovate and prosper.
Hostel Facilities :
During your first year, boys get double sharing rooms and girls get single rooms. From second year onwards, everyone gets single rooms. There is a bed, a study table and a chair. There is a closed cupboard too provided . The mess food is good and the menu can change based on student's demand. For one semester, the hostel and mess together charge for around 36000. This is quite affordable.
