Rupak Bardhan's Review On IIT Roorkee - Indian Institute Of Technology - [IITR], Roorkee | collegedunia.com

What IITR provides

Remarks :

75% in 10+12 standard is the eligibility criteria and for entrance, one needs to clear JEE Mains Paper 1 and JEE Advanced and then clear AAT (Architecture Aptitude Test). All the details for JEE Mains can find out on the NTA website. For SC students the tuition fees are waived by the IIT. If the AAT exam gets conducted in local cities then one would not face the issue to travel for long hours to the center.

Course Curriculum Overview :

I joined the course because I was interested in buildings. The faculty: student is 1:8. There is Teacher Assistance (TA) who helps us solve assignments and clear doubts after the lecture sessions. Faculties have Ph.D. in specialization fields. There are two exams per semester - one is mid tern and another is end-term. Exams are not that tough to pass if one studies a bit attentively.

Internships Opportunities :

Under the surveillance of our excellent professors, we get the opportunity to work under famous firms and acquire practical knowledge about efficient designs and construction works. We get a good stipend of up to 30k per month. And we have to visit sites.

Placement Experience :

From 7th Semester. Amazon, Google, Microsoft, etc. 2.9 Cr is the highest package and 18 LPA is the average. And for B.Arch. the highest package is 40LPA and the average is 13LPA. The companies which come are - Amazon, JP Morgan, Zomato, Mastercard, etc. 90% placement in a year. Will take a job for experience and start an architecture firm as I'll get a license after the completion of the degree by the Council of Architecture.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

The facilities provided by the institute are nothing in front of the fees they ask for. And there are a lot of scholarships like the James Thomason scholarship which provides 25k per month to students who secured a rank under 300.

Campus Life :

Thomson and Cognizance. Cognizance is the second-largest tech fest in Asia. It's conducted in March. The library has most of the resources one needs. Classrooms are nice and well maintained, especially the studios where we work, and are open at night also. You name any sports, you'll find it here all with good equipment and a coach. Several clubs recruit students from 1st year and 2nd years. In the first year, the students have the golden opportunity to join clubs and explore their hidden talents.

Hostel Facilities :

3 people per room. One Almirah, One bed, One study table, and one LAN port with LAN cable are provided. The meal is not that great but edible. On the day of document verification, you'll get the hostel form and get assigned the room. All the hostels are within the campus itself.
