Remarks :
To be eligible for admission into the course, the candidate ought to have completed or be in the final year of graduation, with a specified threshold of marks across all past academic performance. As with any other IIM, the application can be made through the CAT (Common Admission Test) portal. The application fees is INR 1800/- for General category candidates (half of that for reserved categories), which covers the application to all the IIMs. (However, it may be noted that certain IIMs such as Rohtak charge separate fees for application.) Applications for the CAT form close around September-October. After the results come out in January, the institutes release interview calls. For this Institute in particular, past academic performance gets a high weightage- 40% for 10th and 34% for 12th, each being normalized using minimum and maximum scores. 6 points are also awarded for gender diversity. For the final selection, 40 points are allocated for the personal interview round.
Course Curriculum Overview :
The course is academically very heavy, for instance, there are more than 10 subjects in the first trimester. Courses cover all domains such as HR, marketing and finance. Evaluation criteria involve components such as surprise quizzes, group assignments, mid term and end term examinations, and even peer review. Competition is intensified using relative grading system wherein students are awarded grades based on how their score compares to the rest of thier classmates and students of the sister section. A sister section is one which has the same instructor as your section. This eliminates bias in grading. Student faculty is good enough to encourage mentoring. The faculty are highly qualified - doctorates from premier Institutions such as IIM Ahmedabad and IIT Kanpur. The pedagogy in general is case based, but instructors bring in elements such as real life samples of bad and good emails they have received, in-class games and psychometric tests, and so on to make it interesting.
Internships Opportunities :
Summer internships are amazing with both average and median package being at INR 2 lakhs and the highest being INR 4 lakhs for the previous batch. Prominent recruiters such as BCG, Accenture Strategy, KPMG, Deloitte and PwC came in with consulting roles. Finance roles were offered by companies JPMC, Credit Suisse, Deutsche Bank, Barclays and Goldman Sachs. In marketing, ITC, HUL, J&J, Pepsico and Coca-Cola offered a variety of roles. Other major companies were Amazon, Capgemini, Reliance Industries, Flipkart and Cipla, who offered a myriad of roles.
Placement Experience :
Campus placement is one of the major value propositions in the institute. Placements processes usually kick off during term V, in both offline and online mode and the entire process is coordinated greatly by the Placement Committee. Close to 200 companies participated in the process in the previous batch, including multiple new ones. For the previous batch, the average package was INR 25.01LPA and the median was INR 24.09LPA, the closeness of the figures assuring a laudable package for everyone. To detail even further, the average package of the top 100 students was INR 37.95 LPA. The highest package was also about INR 50 LPA. 100% placement has always been the case, despite having the largest batch size across all the IIMs in the country. Also, there has been a legacy of Elite recuiters such as BCG, Goldman Sachs and HUL, with majority of the students opting for the Consulting domain.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
Among the top six IIMs in the country, this Institution has the lowest fees. Although the fee structure was slightly modifed from my batch onwards, this still holds. The current fee structure of approximately INR 21 lakhs, covers everything from course material to mess fees. An added benefit is that if the mess food is not to your taste, you can opt out of it, saving INR 17k×3 in the second year. Multiple scholarship opportunities are pushed to the students such as those from Aditya Birla, ONGC and Reliance Foundation. Apart from this, the college offers its own Need Based Assistance Scheme, providing multiple benefits such as waiving off educational loan interests, reimbursing mess fees and providing internet expenses in case of online learning.
Campus Life :
The cultural fest, the largest one in central India, IRIS, is conducted in November. The college also organises its specialized marketing fest called Utsaha in October, which has a rural and an urban part. The rural segment provides opportunities to conduct primary research at the village level. The library is plentiful of books and journals on business aspects. Book exhibitions are also organized. Classrooms come in gallery format, and are equipped with name plates, AC, projectors on both sides and cushioned chairs. Face recognition system is present for attendance monitoring. There is active participation in sports events occurring across the year. Case competitions are an everyday thing. Other events such as treasure hunt and Section War act as highlights. There are many clubs-Mercur-I: the Marketing Club, Humain-I: the HR club, Equit-I: the finance club, Prodman: the Product Management Club, Consulting Club, Kaizen: the Operations Club, Pragati: the social sentivity club and many more
