The CEPT entrance exam is an important step toward pursuing a career in architecture, planning, or design. Here are some tips to help you prepare for the CEPT entrance exam:

  1. Understand the exam pattern: The CEPT entrance exam usually consists of a written test followed by a studio test and an interview. The written test comprises multiple choice questions and subjective questions covering topics such as Mathematics, General Knowledge, Analytical Ability, and English Language. The studio test assesses your ability to visualize and draw, while the interview tests your communication skills.
  2. Get familiar with the syllabus: Study the syllabus carefully and understand the topics that will be covered in the exam. Refer to textbooks and study materials recommended by CEPT for each subject.
  3. Practice regularly: Regular practice is key to success in any exam. Solve previous year's question papers and sample papers to get an idea of the exam pattern and difficulty level.
  4. Improve your drawing and sketching skills: The studio test in the CEPT entrance exam requires you to demonstrate your drawing and sketching skills. Practice regularly and develop your ability to visualize and draw in three dimensions.
  5. Stay updated with current affairs: The General Knowledge section of the written test covers current affairs, so stay updated with the latest news and events.
  6. Manage your time effectively: Time management is crucial in the CEPT entrance exam. Practice solving questions within the stipulated time frame to improve your speed and accuracy.
  7. Seek guidance from experts: If you face any difficulties during your preparation, seek guidance from experts or join a coaching class for personalized guidance.

Remember to stay calm and focused during the exam, and believe in yourself.

You can also take admission in postgraduate courses such as Master of Landscape Architecture, Master of Technology in Structural Engineering Design, Master of Urban Management, and Master of Technology in Geometrics.

Discussed below are general preparation tips that can be helpful.

Undergraduate Studies - BArch/Design/Engineering:

  • Qualify NAT with good scores in Aptitude, Science, Mathematics, and Analytical Skills.
  • Prepare well for topics like Aptitude, Logical Reasoning, basic knowledge, and orientation towards the Architecture for CEPT.
  • The interview round will test your personality and skills.

Postgraduate - Masters in Architecture/Planning/Design/Technology:

  • A good GATE score will be helpful.
  • Good marks in Architecture shall help as the exam has objective and subjective type questions. But the selection depends on your skills. Do not read architecture books like pattern language. Rather read about architects and their practice in design. Keep track of current affairs in general and in Architecture.
  • The interview can be stressful. You must stay confident. Have a clear answer about why you want to pursue a Master's degree in a specific field.
  • Group discussion will be a tiring session but don't forget to strike first. Always remember to close it with a conclusion or a way forward. Be in a steady stand and don't conflict with your statements, just weigh your words and shoot.

Visit the CEPT website and read all the info. If possible do pay a visit once before applying for the exam. Roam on the campus, talk to people there, which surely would motivate you to prepare well in an indirect way.
