Which college is better for computer science engineering: KIIT Bhubaneswar, MIT Pune, PES Bangalore, BMS Bangalore, or Acharya Institute of Technology Bangalore?

UR
Urmi Ray Posted On : September 25th, 2020
Studied at Acharya Institute of Technology (2018)

When talking of Bangalore, it definitely is the IT hub, and starting your career here will definitely give you great exposure when you come from a computer science background. PES, BES, and Acharya Institute are among the top-notch colleges in Bangalore and will definitely add to your career.

Admission:

  • KIIT Bhubaneswar does all its admissions via its entrance test named KIITEE.

  • MIT Pune admits new students via JEE main / MHT CET/ BITSAT/ VITEEE/ MU OET/PERA CET exams.

  • PES Banglore asks for 60% in 10+2 as minimum qualification and rank in PESSAT will be considered to get shortlisted for admission.

  • And finally, BMS and Acharya Institue conduct theirs via KCET.

Affiliation:

  • People Education Society University (PES) and Bharat Education Society University (BES) are both autonomous colleges that set up high standards for the universities and the students applying for it have to go through internal exams to get in.

  • Acharya Institute of Technology is affiliated to VTU (Visvesvaraya Technological University) and approved by the AICTE. Acharya is also accredited by the NBA (National Board of Accreditation).

Campus:

All three institutes reside in the city of Bangalore; it will be a great opportunity for the locals as they have good options in picking up the college which provides exposure with people from across the country.

If we speak of universities outside Bangalore, then there are few colleges one can consider to move forward with where MIT Pune and KIIT Bhubaneswar are in the limelight. There isn't much to distinguish among the college infrastructure and fees. The crowd in both the universities comes from diligent areas as well as the faculty is well proficient in their respective fields.

Placements:

  • The placement offers of both these universities (PES and BES) are up to the mark, making no significant difference. The average CTC offered for a PES student is around 6.8 LPA.

  • Amazon, LT&T, Deloitte, Cisco, and Capgemini are the top recruits for PES Banglore. Microsoft, HP, and LG are the frequent recruiters of BMS Banglore. The other colleges on the list have mass recruiters like Infosys, Wipro, and TCS.

  • If looking for a calm environment, one can pick up KIIT over MIT; but as Pune does provide better opportunities than Bhubaneswar, MIT wins over.

With a lot of options in hand, it’s natural if a student gets confused picking up the perfect college. Well, it’s always the person who has to strive in the environment and thus have to make decisions accordingly.

Which is better, CSE from KIIT or a ECE from IIEST Shibpur?

DS
Deboleena Seh Posted On : September 17th, 2020
Studied at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology

Both colleges have their pros and cons. KIIT is a private college with a beautiful infrastructure whereas, IIEST is the oldest government college for engineering in India with average infrastructure. KIIT has a NIRF ranking of 24 while IIEST stands at the position of 21 among Engineering colleges.

Admissions:

KIIT:

Students are admitted on the basis ofKIITEE and thosewith 300-350 marks under 4000 rank secure a seat. To be eligible, a student must have 60% in the board exams. However, if a student does not get CSE for their admission, they can choose another branch and score more than 8.5 CGPA to transfer into CSE after the first year.

IIEST Shibpur:

  • A student gets admission based on the rank secured in JEE Main and then goes through JoSAA Counselling & CSAB Special Board.
  • Campus wise, the rank cutoff for ECE in the Shibpur campus is till 9219. To be eligible, a student must have 10+2 with at least 45% (for general candidates) and with 30% marks in English.

Fees:

  • The feefor CSE in KIIT is 4 times to the ECE of IIEST Shibpur.
  • The one-year fees for a BTech student are 4 lacs/annum in KIIT and 1.5 lacs/annum in IIEST Shibpur.
  • Students in KIIT get a scholarship of 10k in each semester if they are amongst the top three students of their branch.

Placements:

KIIT:

  • KIIT offers placements depending upon your GPA, fluent English, and logical skills. If a student has more than 9 GPA and the above-mentioned skills, he/she secures a job with a minimum package of 5-8 LPA.
  • In KIIT, over 195 recruiters offered jobs. The total number of offers was 4379, and 3156 got placed.
  • Some of the top recruiters were Cognizant, Accenture, Colfax, and the highest package offered was 30 LPA.

IIEST SHIBPUR:

  • The placement rates in IIEST Shibpur have shown a significant increase every year. 85.7% in 2017, 81.82% in 2018, and 72% in 2019.
  • The total number of companies visited the campus was90. Some of them are Amazon, CoalIndia, Sankalp Semiconductors, etc.
  • These companies made 462 offers, out of which 311 students got placed. The highest package to date is 39.12 LPA.

The comparison lies that IIEST Shibpur has a good value for money than KIIT. Although not many companies approach IIEST Shibpur in comparison to KIIT there stands a higher chance to get away with the highest package on skills and knowledge. Also, getting in is not as easy as JEE mains scoreshould be very high. But overall, IIEST Shibpur stands in a good place.

Why are more students coming to Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) university each year despite getting less help in terms of study materials and faculty?

LD
Lana Dey, Posted On : October 28th, 2021
B.Tech in Electrical Engineering from Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (2014)

Every student will have a different reason and it could be anything. It cannot be said for sure why more students are joining Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT), but we can at least come up with certain possibilities.

  • KIIT offers ample study material to the students. The students are also interested enough to go through the books.
  • The library provides both hard and soft copies of reading materials.
  • Students enter a college hoping for a lot of things but ultimately realize it is not the college but their skills that will be given more importance.
  • The faculty at this university is excellent and acts as facilitators.
  • Reading and self-study will help you broaden your thinking and help you concentrate more to understand the concepts.

Concentrate on yourself and not on placement records, alumni network, or faculty. Prepare yourself to be skillful so that be it any college you graduate from, it is your work that will speak for you.

What's the present scenario of placements in KIIT?

CR
Chandrakana Ray Posted On : February 2nd, 2021
B.Tech. Computer Science and Engineering, Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (2019)

The placement scenario at KIIT exceeds expectations. It is considered to be one of the eminent universities in India. It is ranked 44 overall by NIRF 2020.

The table below gives a brief insight on placements:

Category

KIIT

Total Fee Per Year

20 lakhs

Companies Visited

Adobe, Accenture, Aditya Birla, Byju’s, etc.

Highest Salary Package

39 lakhs

Average Salary Package

6 LPA

Hostel fee

21,000

More than 90 companies participated in the placement program offering 3500 jobs. Approximately 2000 students got placed in reputed companies.

Day 0, Day 1, Day 2 are when the companies arrive. It is expected that better companies come at the beginning of the drive.

The rounds can be classified into two types – Technical and HR.

  • HR round contains behavioural questions like “Why do you want to join this company”.
  • While the Technical round depends upon your branch subjects and computer science.

Some Important Facts about Placements -

  • Students not from CS should be well prepared.
  • Students must study OS, CN, DBMS.
  • You should take up many Projects to talk about in the interview.
  • You should be well acquainted with any one programming language.
  • You should have the knowledge of the basics of CS programming using C, C++ or Java.
  • Students good at competitive coding, are able to grab higher packages as well. Companies like HighRadius, ZS Associates come for all branches.

During Day 1 the placement exams are usually tougher to crack. The written test has a sectional cut-off as well as an overall cut-off. Once you get through the written test, the interview is not that difficult as it is mainly based on HR questions only.

Other companies including Dell, Deloitte, Barclays, Microsoft, SAP, etc., visited KIIT. The highest package was offered by NowFloats – 25 LPA. For companies like these, you need to have good projects.

The students should attend the pre-placement talk. It helps to grow a connection between the student and the company. You will get an idea about the job and also represent your University.

The most important thing is your CV. You must be sure about the things you put in your CV. So, you could answer any type of questions regarding it, whether it is a project, achievement, or a technical subject.

While preparing use websites like geeks for geeks, glassdoor, m4maths to see what type of questions are asked. Overall, the placements at KIIT surpass expectations.
