What was it like to get D/F/F* at BIT Mesra?

HS
Harpreet Saini Posted On : April 17th, 2021
Studied at Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra

One of my friends shared a story of his batchmate at BIT Mesra who got a F* in DS Lab and theory in the second semester.

  • For anyone not belonging to this institute, an F indicates the shortage of attendance. You need a minimum of 75% attendance to be able to sit for the exams.
  • My friend fell short in DS Theory by 2 lectures as he had gone to his brother’s wedding. The professor knew him well and said that he understood his circumstances and there was no need for any fake medical and that he would be fine and attendance would also be taken care of.
  • But, in the end, it turned out, the professor completely forgot about it and he had his name on the list.
  • He was informed about theory one, during the end semester exams, just two days before his DS exam. He appeared for the exam and no one said a word.
  • He already had an F in DS Lab and thought about registering for theory one as well in the summers because the seniors told him that his exam won’t be evaluated.

It was a spring semester. The results weren’t out by then and had he waited for the results, he would have to wait for another year to give the exam. So, he registered the papers that summer and cleared them. He got an A in both and hoped that his spring semester would be carrying an F, which it did.

What would be a better option between BIT Mesra BTech IT branch and IIITM Gwalior 5 year IPG IT course considering the fact that I have no problem with 4 years or 5 years?

RG
Ritwick Ghose Posted On : July 22nd, 2021
IIITM Gwalior

The best choice will be to pursue a five-year IPG from IIITM Gwalior. The reasons are below.

  • There are two programs in IPG. One is IMT (IPG M. Tech) with 119 intake seats, and another is IMG (IPG MBA) with 69 intake seats. Since 2017, the institute has had a strict batch for IT+MBA, unlike before. In the past, students who failed to get a decent CGPA had no option except to take MBA after the third year and they were not allowed to take M.Tech. This is the reason, the placement statistics for the program may look average. However, the situation has changed.
  • IIITM Gwalior has an excellent alumni base. Even some of the recruiters coming for campus placement have a history with the college.
  • Some students even have cracked Google Summer of Code (GSOC), and most get an internship in their first year.

The placement details of the 2019-20 session for both institutes are below.

Criteria IIITM Gwalior BIT Mesra
Average Package INR 14.58 LPA INR 11.76 LPA
Highest Package INR 42 LPA INR 49.76 LPA
Tuition Fee INR 6.7 Lakhs INR 12.32 Lakhs
  • The batch has people with diverse backgrounds and interests, making a mix of cultures.

Overall, the return on investment (ROI) from IPG IIITM is excellent, and the course saves the traditional way of bachelor and master degree time.

How good is biotech at BIT, Mesra?

IP
Indrani Pahari Posted On : April 19th, 2021
BIT Mesra

I would like to share the experience of one of my cousins, who studied biotech at BIT Mesra.

It all started after he secured a decent rank in his AIEEE exam and through the All-India quota got admission in BE- Biotechnology course, offered by BIT Mesra.

In the first year of his engineering, students studied the same subjects irrespective of their branches. At the end of his first year, he was quite confident that he had studied hard and cleared all subjects without any problems.

After getting into his second year on the first day in the department he got the reality check. From that day onwards, he doesn’t advise people to join Biotechnology, here at BIT Mesra.

Some vital points about Biotechnology, BIT Mesra:

  • The lab equipment is world-class but none of them truly work. If some of them do the students are not allowed to operate them.
  • The class schedule is quite hectic, students will have classes throughout the day, 5 days a week.
  • For the next 3 years, same things are taught to you under different subject titles. It's like every semester.

So from the experience, I shared with you gives you in and out of the field. Now, it is your choice whether you want to get enrolled in the particular field or not.

How do I get a decent CGPA in the bit mesra exam system?

DG

B.E. Computer Science and Engineering, Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra (2021)

I know someone who started with 5 pointers and 3 backs but managed to secure a good placement after his course. Here are some things, which my friend followed to do so.

  • Have a sense of the subject and go thoroughly over the syllabus and attempt to form a conceptual picture of what you will study in the semester. It may at first seem hard, but it will require some time and interest. Learn about these subjects with actual life implementations.
  • Know where to begin with. Be mindful of the important texts, notes on which you have to study, etc. The best way to do this is to ask the seniors. If you get it right, then you can save time.
  • Try and get the previous year’s question papers. It may be not always helpful, but the majority of questions are selected from the last two or three years.
  • If you can’t memorize 5-6 modules per subject, particularly for 3-4 papers in a row. Try to prepare for fewer modules really well.
  • If you have a tendency to go deep into a single topic and have difficulty following tutorials you can solve tutorial sheets. Also, try to make notes on your own, it will help you understand the topics better. If possible try to teach someone else, this helps a lot.

Try to cut out the things that waste your time like Facebook, Gaming, TV series, etc.

What is the best way to spend my last few days at BIT Mesra?

SG
Souvick Gupta Posted On : April 19th, 2021
BIT Mesra (2019)

Well, getting into one of the top-notch colleges and then living there for 4 years with all your ups and downs and suddenly bidding goodbye is tough. So, the best way to spend your last few days in college is by giving those things a rest for a while and enjoy the very moment.

  • You are living among certain people, some of them whom you might not meet ever in your life. You would get lots of time in your boring life after college to travel and do stuff even with some of these people.
  • Make small trips with your friends. There are plenty of options.
  • Read, write, paint, nurture your hobbies.
  • Most of you probably already visited the river. If you have not already wake up in the morning and take a stroll to the river.
  • Have a one-on-one conversation with the professor you admire. Tell them about your future plan, listen to what they have to say.
  • There are many wonderful eateries nearby. Try breakfast buffet at Capitol hill, visit Incredible India bus near the AG Road.
  • Exploit DC++ as much as you can.
  • Continue what you have been doing for the last 3-4 years. Sit with your friends and have a chat. Start playing. You are never going to get these things again in your life. Sit in the sun, and play cricket/anything on the grounds in front of your hostel.

So these are the few things you can do and live right then in the very few days left of your graduation years.

What is the CGPA conversion formula for BIT Mesra Ranchi?

TS
Tanisha Sinha Posted On : April 20th, 2021
B.E from Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra (2018)

The CGPA conversion at BIT Mesra is as usual as it is calculated by some simple arithmetic calculations. At the time of Convocation:

  • If you have a CGPA of 7.0 and above - You will be awarded 1st class with Distinction.
  • If you have a CGPA of 6.0 and above - You will be awarded 1st class without Distinction.
  • If you have a CGPA of 5.0 and above - You will be awarded, 2nd class.

Now, let’s see how to identify what your grade will be based on your marks and CGPA:

Marks

CGPA

Grade

90-100

10

O

80-89

9

A+

70-79

8

A

60-69

7

B+

50-59

6

B

40-49

5

C

30-39

4

D (Fail)

To convert your CGPA into a percentage just multiply your CGPA by 10. For example, 8.34 then in % it will be 8.34*10=83.4

Every subject has a certain credit allotted to it. Subjective exams usually have more credits than practical papers and viva voice.

The formula for CGPA calculation:

Suppose your pointers in 'n' subjects are p1, p2, p3, ...... pn.

The credits in those subjects are c1,c2,c3, .........cn respectively.

CGPA(for that particular semester)

(p1*c1 + p2*c2 + p3*c3 .........+pn*cn)/(c1+c2+c3+........+ cn)

If you are having a hard time calculating your CGPA, every year you will be getting a complete annual evaluation report along with your CGPA for that year.
