GATE 2022 Cutoff for IIT Madras

Many students with a GATE rank around 800 manage to get shortlisted. But the further screening in the form of a written test is a bit challenging after which you have to appear for the interview.

While many may consider JEE as the only criteria for admission to IITs, the written test and interview also need considerable preparation. This can be done by going through textbooks and brushing your basics. The written test evaluated your problem-solving capacity while the interview evaluated your clarity of concepts.

What was your experience like getting into IIT, Bombay to do M.Tech - CSE after clearing the GATE?

AB
Advaith Bhaskar Posted On : March 18th, 2023
Lives in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India (2000–present)

One of my friends got admission to IIT Bombay Computer Science and here is a detailed answer based on her experience.

The application process begins after GATE Ranks are released. You are required to opt for an Engineering discipline. If you did your bachelors in CS/IT, then you're allowed to opt for CSE, and some other Interdisciplinary courses like IEOR, etc.

Your application is then evaluated and then you might get a call if you clear the required criteria.

If you are willing to join CSE then I have 2 options for you.

 1. M.Tech as a Teaching Assistant: This is a 2-year programme; the first year is like any other course program comprising lectures, assignments, projects, and stuff while the second year requires you to work on your M.Tech. project.

Admission: Admissions with TA are done on the basis of GATE rank only and are not followed by any interviews or tests.

Course: Under this, you have to assist professors with their work such as managing lab sessions for UG students, exam supervision, etc.

 1. M.Tech as a Research Assistant: This is a 3-year program and is similar to TA except that you get to work on a funded research project under a professor from the very beginning. You get an additional year to complete your M.Tech coursework. The work is exciting and the course is less rigorous than TA.

Both TAs and RAs are required to complete the same number of minimum credits for their M.Tech degree, but RAs get an additional year. Admission to RA is difficult and is based on

 • A CS test
 • An interview if you manage to clear the test.

The test can consist of questions from the entire GATE syllabus. Once you clear the test, you have to sit for the interview.

Once you have been admitted to either of these, you have to choose from a wide range of courses. There are around 20 courses in the first semester, and you can choose them in 2 weeks by attending their classes and analyzing them. You have to select 3 (RA) or 4 (TA) courses.

The faculty pool is extremely learned and does justice to its reputation. Some are truly brilliant and awesome. Overall, the Institute fulfills all your expectations and stands up to its worth and credibility.

Why did you choose IIT Bombay over IISc after GATE?

AT
Adwait Tejas Posted On : March 17th, 2023
studied Aerospace and Aeronautical Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (2021)

Both IIT Bombay and IISc have great professors and ranking in electrical department is close yet the reasons behind choosing IIT Bombay over IISC after GATE are the following:

All-round development: IISC is more academic oriented with fewer extra-curricular activities. You wanted to develop your social skills and participate in activities beyond academics.

Placements: IIT Bombay has better placements with a wider scope of jobs for communication engineers. The placement process is rigorous and teaches you a lot.

Opinions: You took opinions of professors from your bachelor's college, folks from industry and students of both colleges. More professors were leaning towards IISC, but industry folks unanimously favored IITB.

Nearer to hometown: Ahmedabad is nearer to Mumbai than Bengaluru, and the location plays a part in your decision along with better food in Mumbai.

At IITB, you will get fantastic two years with highly knowledgeable but humble faculties, will be given the opportunity to write two academic papers, make great friends, explore Mumbai and will definitely have a good placement.

You will be happy with your decision at the end of the day and will not regret it. You cannot say if it is good or bad, but it will absolutely be the right one for you.

How do I get admitted into the ME production program in MSU, Baroda via my GATE score?

NV
Nimi Vashi Posted On : December 29th, 2022
Studied at The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda

You can get admitted into the ME production program at MSU through ACPC Gujarat.

Application time: After the CCMT process is almost complete

Gate score: of 500+ is required for opening.

Seats: 9-25

Eligibility: Passed Graduation in engineering and Technology from a recognized university.

During the first 2 semesters at MSU lectures and written exams are conducted. The Second year is for the dissertation. You can do your project from anywhere in India. Some students even do their projects in private companies like NAL, and ISRO. The first semester is monotonous as everything in the curriculum has already been taught in BE. The second year has some more additions. Generally, GATE candidates are given 8 hrs load per week. To increase your profile, at MSU, attend seminars, workshops, and conferences. The overall workload is less so you can work part-time or prepare for any other exam. The faculties are very cooperative and will help you throughout. The only drawback is that the placement opportunities are limited like any other institute.
