Which is better for neurosurgery CMC Vellore or AIIMS Delhi?

AS
Anita Saha Posted On : December 30th, 2021
M.Ch Neurosurgery, Govind Ballabh Pant Hospital (2018)

To pursue a Neurosurgery course, both colleges are equally good in their own ways. But AIIMS Delhi should definitely be your first choice.

Here’s why:

  • They have a well adapted and constructive system.
  • They have a huge patient load.
  • You will have proper support from the latest technology, excellent guides, renowned consultants and well equipped labs and machinery.
  • They follow dedicated patient management protocol, incorporating latest techniques into their surgical practice.
  • They have got a cadaveric training facility with cadaveric courses being conducted from time to time.
  • They also have animal training labs where you can work on your microsurgical skills.

Delhi is a very lively city offering various opportunities through numerous national and international conferences conducted here frequently.

CMC Vellore also has a great reputation but AIIMS has an upper hand. The schedule at both places, your residency training is going to be tough. The fees at CMC are much higher than AIIMS and the salary offered at AIIMS is 4 times higher than CMC.

Since nearly 75 percent of the IIM Ahmedabad graduates end up having unsuccessful careers, does it make more sense to give the GRE-TOEFL and go abroad for an MS?

SB
Shrey Banka Posted On : December 22nd, 2022
Studies at Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (Expected 2023)

Firstly your opinion regarding IIM Ahmedabad is false. IIM Ahmedabad is one of the best B Schools with its alumni working at big firms. Your claim that 75% of IIM Ahmedabad graduates end up having unsuccessful careers is wronged.

Maybe your definition of success is a bit retarded. Success does not necessarily mean becoming a CEO, CTO, or CFO. Success depends on how much your hard work and efforts are paying you back. IIM Ahmedabad excels in this aspect as the placements provided by this B School are top-notch.

It’s the massive impact caused by IIM Ahmedabad’s alumni that big firms keep visiting the campus again and again. They know the surety of the talent and offer big packages. Apart from these, MNCs worldwide are now hiring from this B School. The brand IIMA is recognized across the world.

Now if you are confused between MS and MBA I think you should analyze your own interests. If you are tech-savvy and prefer technological work over management then even choosing MS can make you successful.

I am a B.E. first year student at UIT RGPV, Bhopal, India with branch in ECE. I want to do my MS from the USA. How should I prepare?

SK
Shubham Kumar Posted On : August 28th, 2021
Studied B.E. Mechanical Engineering at UIT RGPV Bhopal (2019)

To get admission to an MS degree from any US university there are 3 different important factors - GPA; GRE and TOEFL scores and SOP supported by LOR’s.

  1. The first factor has to be maintained at your previous academic place. You must score above the minimum grade to be eligible to sit in the entrance exam. Focus on the coursework and score as high as possible.
  2. In the junior year of your academic degree, start preparing for the GRE and TOEFL because they are not easy and can create a little bit of a problem.
  3. The third factor is the SOP supported by the LOR’s. Here SOP means a letter of recommendation and LOR is the professor who taught you the courses. Find a faculty who will help you in your research and write a supervised thesis to be included in the SOP which can prove to be a great benefit for you.

Try to answer few questions by yourself about the purpose of the degree. Will it really be helpful in the future? Form small steps and slowly go for the final decision. Optimize your plan after you get the answers to these questions and then formulate a plan.

What are the best colleges in India apart from ISI Kolkata, DSE, and IGIDR for MS in economics? (My criteria for best includes faculty, curriculum, pedagogy, placements, and alumni base)

RC
Rajib Chatterjee Posted On : September 13th, 2021
B.Sc in Mathematics (college major) & Physical Sciences,Jadavpur University (2019)

ISI Delhi is a better option as it is far better than ISI Kolkata for MS. Saint Xavier’s College, Kolkata is also a very good college along with Saint Xaviers, Mumbai.

If faculty profiles, cost structure, placements with a package ranging around 7 to 9 lakhs, alumni, and acceptance rate are considered, here’s a list of all those universities which offer you all of the above mentioned.

  • DSE
  • ISI (Kolkata, Delhi)
  • IGIDR
  • MSE
  • JNU (CITD, CESP)
  • Department of Business Economics (DU), GIPE
  • UoH
  • CDS, Trivandrum
  • IITM, IITK
  • Jadavpur University

The school of economics does not offer an MS in economics. IGIDR offers a Master of Science but not a master of research which is offered by the most reputed IITM in Financial Economics.

How much Hard is to get an MD/MS seat through NEET PG or AIIMS PG?

SK
Sahil Khurana Posted On : January 8th, 2021
MBBS Medicine and Healthcare, Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh

To be very honest, to get an MD/MS seat through NEET PG or AIIMS PG is not an impossible task. It requires a lot of focus, dedication, and appropriate preparation.

The table below will give some recent insights about NEET PG and AIIMS PG.

Total Number of MD + MS + Diploma seats under NEET PG (Government + Private) 27,979
Total Number of MD+ MS+ Diploma Government seats under NEET PG 17,921
Total Number of MD + MS seats under AIIMS PG 680
Number of candidates registered for NEET PG (2020) 1,67,102
Number of candidates qualified NEET PG (2020) 89,549
Number of candidates registered for AIIMS PG (2020) 30,000 (approx.)

Key highlights:

  • The main thing to keep in mind is that ‘Focus and Dedication’ make everything sorted. You must focus on proper preparation from the 1st year of MBBS.
  • You will be required to do an internship after 4 years of MBBS. The time spent during the internship can be used in preparation for NEET PG or AIIMS PG.
  • For some candidates, taking a drop of a year for preparation suits best. While for the rest, preparation along with internship and regular practice is enough.
  • It is very difficult to manage all subjects in a short period of time. The syllabus for the exam is also not fixed.
  • Getting a seat in AIIMS PG is definitely a more difficult option than in NEET PG. For candidates having full faith, they should have a more refined and clear in-depth concept for the exams.

If you are dedicated from the beginning, it is very easy to secure a seat through any entrance exam. Having a proper strategy from the initial days is the key to success in every competitive stage.

What is the daily schedule of IISC Bangalore MS students?

SP
Shikha Poddar Posted On : August 14th, 2020
Studied at Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore (IISc) (2016)

Every student has their own different schedule. However, a general day for an MS student at IISc Bangalore can be summed up in the following points given below.

  • Breakfast is provided every morning from 7.30 AM to 9.30 A.M. Some of the students have classes from 8 A.M., so they have to get up before that, have breakfast, and go to class. For those who don’t have classes, they have to attend labs for their research work.

  • Lunchtime is from around 1 P.M. to 2 P.M. After having lunch the students again have to go to their labs to continue the work.

  • Students generally take evening breaks for snacks and tea in IISC canteen- Prakruti. Sometimes you will find professors accompanying the students for tea. Many students play some outdoor games during this time.

  • Then again students go to their labs and work until dinner time. After dinner, many students hang out with their friends or watch movies or go for a walk. Sometimes if the workload is high, they have to work even after dinner.

MS students spend most of the time in their labs. They also have to adjust their T.A. work in this hectic schedule whenever required. This is how the day of an MS student looks like from Monday to Saturday. On Sundays, they relax in their rooms or go to movies, spend their day with their friends.

Since nearly 75 percent of the IIM Ahmedabad graduates end up having unsuccessful careers, does it make more sense to give the GRE-TOEFL and go abroad for an MS?

TR

The term 'successful’ is relative. What exactly is your yardstick for being successful? Is it becoming CEO? Or doing well in your respective career and creating a solid impact?

Undoubtedly, IIMA is one of the top business schools in India and in the world. Not just the excellent academics but also the huge alumni network are the proof of that. Most of the alumni are recruited in senior management positions of reputed MNCs around the globe. It might be wrong to say that 75 percent of the IIM Ahmedabad graduates are unsuccessful because if this was the scenario there, there would be no reason for the MNCs to continue hiring from there.

The alumni impact in the industry is one of the major reasons why reputed MNCs come every year to IIM Ahmedabad for recruitment. IIM Ahmedabad has a brand value known across the world. You can check on Linkedin, to see where the alums of IIMA are currently working. This will give you the right idea about the success rate of the graduates at IIM Ahmedabad.

Success is a very relative term; it can be seen as a different thing to different people depending on their mindset and goals. If your definition of success is to only become a CEO/CFO/CTO, then even prime institutes like Harvard or Stanford won’t be able to satisfy your expectation. So, defining success in a single way will not be justified.

Also, doing MS or MBA is totally dependent on your interest and skills, and not the success rate. If you are passionate about the technology world, MS is the best choice for you. On the other hand, if you are passionate about business and management, MBA is your destination. At last, it would be fair enough to say that if you are really into your field and job, nothing can stop you from being successful, Good Luck.
