M.Tech Computer Science & Research, Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani

BITS Pilani offers courses in multiple fields of engineering, technology, science, and humanities. The logo of BITS Pilani signifies the same variety of subjects offered by the institute.

  • The molecule present on the central-left side of the logo signifies science and its applications.
  • There is a lotus flower present at the center of the logo. It signifies Arts or Humanities and subjects belonging to the same.
  • The rocket on the central-right side of the logo signifies technology.
  • The motto of the institute is “Gyanam Paramam Balam”, which stands for the phrase “Knowledge is the supreme power”.

A few years back, a new logo was designed in addition to the main logo and is placed at the footer of the website. It has three colors- yellow, blue, and red consecutively, and a watermark gear from the main logo on it. It has three words written in those three colors- innovate, achieve, and lead.

Is it good to study M.Tech in data analytics from Bits, Pilani Wilp manner, as executive manner?

SB
Siddhartha Banerjee Posted On : July 15th, 2021
M.S Software Engineering & Communication, Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani (2019)

One of my friends did this course and he had a mixed experience. Based on his review of the course, I will say it is not a good idea to study M.Tech in Data Analytics from BITS, Pilani Wilp manner. Nevertheless, it also depends on your goal.

My friend wanted to go for a Ph.D. abroad. He couldn’t grab many opportunities even within the same company in which he got placed. All in all, the degree didn’t prove to be much valuable for him because he expected it to work as a base for his Ph.D. career abroad. Unfortunately, the degree didn’t hold much value and then he had to go for MS first before applying for a Ph.D.

Now, here are some insights about M.Tech in Data Analysis from BITS Pilani which my friend and his batchmates realized.

  • The curriculum is not appropriate compared to other courses related to data science.
  • Even the faculty do not belong to BITS itself. Hence, you might feel that the quality of teaching is not up to the mark.

I will recommend you research the course syllabus and future prospectus before joining. If you have a computer science background you can do well in the first semester, but the syllabus can change anytime. Therefore, M.Tech in data analytics from BITS Pilani is not a great option because brand names won't help you everywhere.

Which is a better choice, NIT Trichy or BITS Pilani?

SP
Shankar Pandey Posted On : March 24th, 2023
B.Tech Production and Industrial Engineering, National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli (2020)

When comparing NITT with the BITS Pilani campus, there are several parameters that you can consider to make an informed decision. Here are a few key points to keep in mind:

Quality of peers:

  • At NITT, the general candidates who are admitted tend to be slightly academically superior to those at BITS Pilani. However, due to reservations about NITs, the overall peer group is dampened to some extent. Nonetheless, you will still be sitting with some of the best minds in the country at both institutions.

Placements:

  • The placement opportunities are more or less the same for both colleges. However, BITS Pilani has a slight edge due to its Dual Degree program. Around 40% of the students enrolled in this program get their B.E. in CSE, which leads to better placements in that field.

Academics:

  • BITS Pilani is known for its unique and innovative academic policies. However, this has both pros and cons. You can use the 0% attendance policy to master a skill or build your own startup, or you can waste it on partying and playing games. Professors at both institutions will be equally qualified, but BITS Pilani lets you choose your own professor. Keep in mind, however, that "the more flexible it is, the less stable it gets." You need to choose what will inspire you.

Fees:

  • BITS Pilani has very high fees that increase every year, while NITT has a moderately low fee structure. Both colleges offer different kinds of scholarships, but expenses will likely be higher at BITS.

Alumni Network and Reputation:

  • Both institutions have large alumni networks and are among India's top engineering colleges. To learn more, you can search for information online.

Fests:

  • Both colleges have awesome fests. BITS Pilani has Apogee and Oasis, while NITT has Pragyan and Festember, a fest to remember.

If you have a specific interest and are willing to bear the higher expenses of BITS, then it may be the right choice for you. Otherwise, NITT is a great option. If you don't have a specific interest and want to explore more, join BITS if you are getting circuital branches in both and join NITT if you're getting non-circuital branches in both.
