NIT Surathkal is one of the leading oldest and Pioneer technical institutions in India offering undergraduate or postgraduate and doctoral programs in various specializations with a student strength of 4688. IIT Tirupati is an autonomous engineering technological Institute and the first one of the 3rd phase IITs in India offering several specializations under undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs.

Course:

NIT Surathkal-

• It offers BTech in 5 specializations- Information Technology, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Communication engineering.

• It also offers M.tech, MBA, MCA, MSc, and Ph.D.

• The cutoff trend for BTech in Computer engineering is 1000-1600.

IIT Tirupati-

• It offers BTech in 4 specializations- Computer Science and Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Chemical Engineering.

• It also offers Mtech, MS, and Ph.D.

Admission:

NIT Surathkal-

• Admissions to BTech are done on the basis of marks acquired by a candidate in the JEE entrance exam and marks in the 12th board exams. Seats are allocated through JoSAA counseling.

• Admissions in MTech and MSc are made on the basis of the GATE entrance exam.

• Admissions in MBA and MCA are done on the basis of CAT/GMAT/NIMCET.

• The selection of Ph.D. programs is done on the basis of academic performance and aptitude tests.

IIT Tirupati-

• Admissions in BTech is done by JEE main and JEE advanced scores.

• Admissions to Mtech and MS is done through GATE score followed by written test and interview.

• Admissions in Ph.D. is through UGC NET/ GATE/ CSIR NET/ICAR OR ICMR.

The grand total fees and placement records are mentioned below for BTech.

Both the institutes have an active placement cell which organizes placement events for final year students. The institute also arranges internships for students.

The grand total fees for completing BTech are slightly higher in NIT Surathkal than IIT Tirupati however in the aspect of placement stats, NIT Surathkal is way ahead of IIT Tirupati.

My elder brother was accepted to both colleges in Eco(Hons) this year, and he eventually chose Scottish Church. Here's why.

• Even if the faculties of both departments are almost equal, classes in Ashutosh are irregular, and the union has too much ownership. Inside the premises, the atmosphere for a first-year student isn't great.
• Unlike Ashutosh, the admissions process at Scottish Church is uncomplicated and administered by the department.
• However, both are under CU, and if you're familiar with the marking scheme, they're identical. You must rely on tuition regarding your studies in Ashutosh as teachers will be of little help.

So, choosing Scottish Church College will be better. 

Both IIEST and IIITM Gwalior offer CSE and IT as their flagship courses respectively. The deciding factor here is which subject you are more inclined towards.

If you are passionate about CSE, then IIEST is the best option. Being the second oldest engineering college in India; it has an amazing faculty-Student ratio of 1:14 with highly qualified faculties and visiting professors from IITs, NITs, and other renowned Universities. IIEST is ranked 21st for engineering in 2020.

If your interest lies in the IT field, IIITM Gwalior must be your priority. Ranked 100 for engineering by NIRF in 2020, IITM offers IT as its flagship course.

Admission:

IIEST:

• For admission in IIEST, aspirants must clear JEE Main.

• With the ranking of 4165-10909, one can secure admission in CSE at IIEST in the first round.

• Aspirants from the General (PWD) category must secure a rank below 522 for the same course. Whereas students belonging to OBC (Non-creamy layer) must secure a rank within 4,398.

• IIEST offers a total of 120 seats for CSE with the annual Tuition fee of 70,000.

IIITM Gwalior:

• Securing the rank within 9713-14442 in JEE Main will fetch admission in the IT department of IIITM Gwalior.

• Cutoff falls down to 3,800- 6,300 for OBC (Non-creamy layer) and General category students.

• The admission process is carried through JoSAA Counselling and CSAB Special Round.

• IIITM Gwalior offers 262 seats for the IT branch with a yearly fee of 84,325.

Placement statistics:

IIEST:

• Around 100 large to medium-sized companies take part in campus recruitment every year.

• Industry giants including IBM, Microsoft, Maruti, TCS, HSBC Technologies are the top recruiters.

• CSE branch in IIEST has the current placement rate of 72% with 462 students being placed in 2020.

• The average CTC offered for CSE students is 9 LPA with the highest CTC of 39.12 LPA.

IIITM Gwalior:

• 400+ companies participate in the recruitment process every year.

• Top recruiters include Amazon, Expedia, IBM, TCS, HCL, DELL, Paytm, Myntra.

• 90% of the students get placed at top companies with an average salary of 14.58 LPA.

• The highest domestic CTC offered in 2020 is 42 LPA.

Both IIEST and IIITM Gwalior are best in the respective courses offered. The deciding factor here is which branch you find perfect for your interest among CSE and IT.

Sharda University, Chandigarh University, and Vel Tech are private institutions of India and are all accredited by UGC. Sharda University ranks 151st in the NIRF rankings, while Chandigarh University and Veltech rank 84th (B.Tech.) and 95th (Engineering), respectively.

Infrastructure and Facilities

• Sharda University: The campus is spread across 63 acres of land and provides facilities such as hostels, stores, pharmacy, hospital, transport, library, gym, laundry, salon, community radio, IT department, student activity centre, cafeteria, etc.

• Chandigarh University: The world-class campus provides facilities such as 14 academic blocks spread across 100+ acres, labs, libraries, sports, food and dining, hostels, and health care to its students.

• Vel Tech: The state-of-the-art campus is spread across 100 acres and offers accommodation, temples, recreation, dining, sports, medical centers, library, transportation, learning, seminar and conference halls, canteen, research centers, and much more.

Placement Statistics

• Sharda University: 80% of students were placed overall. The highest salary package received is INR 65 LPA. 350+ recruiters, like Amazon, Videocon, Asian Paints, L&T, etc, recruit graduates from the university.

• Chandigarh University: The highest package offered was INR 35 LPA and the median salary offered was INR 5.96 LPA. Approximately 80% of students were placed in top companies such as Amazon, Microsoft, Deloitte, Walt Disney, etc.

• Vel Tech: Top recruiting companies include Amazon, L&T, BOSCH, Hyundai, MBIT Wireless, DeltaX, etc. The highest package offered was 28 LPA and approximately 70-80% of students were placed.

Interested students must thoroughly research and learn about the three institutes and then arrive at an informed decision as to which one will be the best for them. It depends on one’s academic merit, disposition, and program offered by the institute, and is a completely personal choice.

Among the institutes mentioned, IIIT Allahabad is a better alternative for Bioinformatics. One of my friends was also going through this same situation a few years back and he chose IIIT Allahabad. His experience at the institute has been quite good over the past 4 years.

• Core Bioinformatics companies don't visit the campus usually, but product-based companies like Amazon, Directi, etc offer handsome packages. 

Overall, IIIT Allahabad is the potential choice as the faculty and infrastructure are good and all the previous year’s students have been placed with good packages.
