Mechanical Engineering students usually get placed in job roles such as Automotive Engineer, Powertrain Engineer, Senior Design Engineer, etc.
When deciding on which engineering branch to pursue, it is important to choose that interests you the most. If you are trying to choose between mechanical engineering at Jadavpur University and civil engineering at MNNIT Allahabad, it is important to consider your own personal interests and career aspirations.
You should go for the engineering branch that you like the most. This way, you will be able to enjoy your studies throughout your four years at the institute, and also during your future career.
Choosing an engineering branch based solely on external factors such as job availability or pay can lead to a lack of motivation and interest, which can ultimately negatively impact your academic performance and career growth. Therefore, it is crucial to choose an engineering branch that you are truly passionate about.
To determine which engineering branch is right for you, take some time to research and understand the differences between mechanical and civil engineering. Consider your strengths, interests, and career goals. Try to talk to professionals or alumni in both fields to gain insight into their daily work and experiences.
Remember, your decision is ultimately yours to make. Choose the engineering branch that you are truly excited about, and that will give you the best chance of success and personal fulfillment.
Mechanical is an option at NIT Jalandhar.
Although MNNIT Allahabad has a better brand name than NIT Jalandhar, the production branch has many disadvantages when compared to the mechanical branch.
Unless someone specifically mentions Production Engineering, you will have to compete with mechanical students at NIT Allahabad during placements and off-campus interviews. When compared to Mechanical, there are fewer job opportunities.
There may now be one or two PSUs with separate vacancies for Production students. Mechanical paper is required in order to obtain PSUs, which are extremely difficult to crack. GATE is very important for core branches, and Mechanical has a high level of competition compared to other branches. Only if you intend to change your branch after one year should you enroll in NIT Allahabad; otherwise, do not.
IIT Kharagpur is a much notable and popular IIT. It is one of the older IITs, making it more reliable and popular among students and professionals alike. It is the first IIT to be established. It ranks 5th in the Engineering category by NIRF 2020. The cut off for Mechanical Engineering in IIT Kharagpur ranged from 1500-5000. Companies like Amazon, Adobe, Cypress, Deshaw are among the top recruiters at IIT Kharagpur. An average salary package of 14 lakhs per annum was provided to students recruited in MNCs in 2019 placement. Being the oldest of the IITs the faculty is more experienced and IIT Kharagpur offers many facilities like hostels, Food Courts, Library, Hospital, 2 Stadiums along with swimming pool and gym all within the campus, making it a society of their own.
Unlike IIT Kharagpur, IIT Bhubaneswar lacks a little behind in Infrastructure, Faculty members, On-Campus Facilities, etc. as it is a newer establishment. IIT Bhubaneswar ranks 22nd by NIRF 2020. The cut off for CSE is 1200-4000. IIT Bhubaneswar though not as reputable as IIT Kharagpur has seen a 100% placement in the CSE department in the year 2019. With an average salary package of 11 lakhs per annum. So choosing to study CSE in IIT Bhubaneswar will not be a bad choice.
Both options have their merits so choose according to your preference of subject and your rank.
Both IIT Kharagpur and IIT Bhubaneswar are good IITs. So, it’s difficult to pick a single one.
IIT Kharagpur is one of the top IITs in India, ranking at 3 according to NIRF rankings 2019. The placement record of Chemical Engineering in IIT Kharagpur is quite good too. According to the 2019 placement report, 80% of the students got placement offers while a few of them went on to pursue higher education. Abbott India Limited, ITC Limited, Aditya Birla Science & Technology Company Ltd, Jacobs Engineering, Ansys India, Johnson Matthey India Pvt Ltd are a few of the top recruiting companies in 2019 at IIT Kharagpur.
While IIT Bhubaneswar is a new name among IITs, it’s doing quite well in placement. The ECE branch of IIT Bhubaneswar started recently and the first batch will graduate in 2020, as a result, there is no previous placement record. But the placement record for Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering is quite good. The 2019 placement record reveals 86% and 83% of students got job offers from Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering respectively. Also, according to the NIRF 2019, IIT Bhubaneswar is ranked 26, which is a good rank considering it’s a new IIT.
Both the IITs, IIT Kharagpur, and IIT Bhubaneswar are good choices, so make your decision according to your convenience.
IIT BHU is one of the prestigious IITs of India and is 100 years old. The Mechanical Department of IIT BHU has good faculties and excellent lab facilities. Course Curriculum of Mechanical Engineering is designed in such a way to provide students with industrial skills. The Mechanical Department at IIT BHU has good placement stats having companies visiting campus for jobs in both cores as well as non-core profiles.
Some of the well-known core companies visiting the campus include DRDO, IOCL, HUL, Jaguar, TATA motors, Reliance, Maruti, L&T, BPCL, etc. The list of companies is not only restricted to the core, but students get offers from non-core sectors too like Software/IT, Consulting, Analytics, Finance, Education, etc. It has been observed that most of the students are placed in well-known organizations with an average package ranging from 10-12 lacs CTC. JU is also a good college with some of the good faculties and infrastructure. It is considered one of the best colleges in West Bengal after IITKGP. One of the perks of joining JU is that fee is only 10k per semester which is quite cheap when compared to IIT BHU. Placements are very good and on par with other colleges and students get placed in top companies such as Amazon, Microsoft, Oracle, Adobe, Samsung, Goldmann Sachs, etc. Students were offered an average package of 12 LPA CTC while the highest being offered was 39 LPA CTC by Adobe.
It is difficult to compare two institutes for different branches. You should choose the institute based on your branch of interest.
GL Bajaj is ranked at 26 for private engineering by India Today and is known to be a leading academic institution. NIET Greater Noida on the other hand has been ranked at number 1 by Data Quest for best private engineering colleges in India. Both universities offer programs in Business, Engineering, IT, and software.
Specifically for Mechanical engineering, let us have a look at the difference between programs offered by both the colleges:
Course structure:
Tuition Fee: The total tuition fee for the Mechanical engineering program at NIET amounts to 4.65 lakh whereas GL Bajaj charges a total amount of 2.20 lakh for the same course.
Eligibility:
Placements:
Top Recruiters: Compared to GL Bajaj, NIET oversees a lower number of core companies. It sees companies like TCS, Wipro, Kotak, and Nestle as part of its recruitment drive. GL Bajaj on the other hand has many core companies for the field of mechanical engineering like Capgemini, CDK Global, HCL, Fiserv, and Capital Via.
Based on the given factors, students can make a choice regarding their college of preference.
It’s better to denounce the sheep mentality and think from your own perspective. If you are attracted to CS because of its lucrative branches, I suggest you not go for new IITs as the placement scenario is not that good.
IIT Roorkee, on the other hand, is a very old Engineering college with an excellent legacy. The rich coding culture motivates even non-CS students to learn coding to apply for software companies. The new IITs soaring in Guwahati and Indore lack the necessary resources and dynamism of coding.
One can always work on their noncore branches and gain additional skills to compensate for their flaws. But one should risk the Institute and always go for the best.
It’s better to choose IIT Roorkee Mechanical than CS in new IITs.
You can get admitted into the ME production program at MSU through ACPC Gujarat.
Application time: After the CCMT process is almost complete
Gate score: of 500+ is required for opening.
Seats: 9-25
Eligibility: Passed Graduation in engineering and Technology from a recognized university.
During the first 2 semesters at MSU lectures and written exams are conducted. The Second year is for the dissertation. You can do your project from anywhere in India. Some students even do their projects in private companies like NAL, and ISRO. The first semester is monotonous as everything in the curriculum has already been taught in BE. The second year has some more additions. Generally, GATE candidates are given 8 hrs load per week. To increase your profile, at MSU, attend seminars, workshops, and conferences. The overall workload is less so you can work part-time or prepare for any other exam. The faculties are very cooperative and will help you throughout. The only drawback is that the placement opportunities are limited like any other institute.
