What is the difference between 2 MBA programs (PGDM and GMP) offered by SPJIMR, Mumbai?

SD
Shekhar Deshmukh Posted On : March 15th, 2023
Studied at S. P. Jain Institute of Management and Research (SPJIMR)

he PGCIM program, started in association with the Center of Indo-European Business Studies, co-financed by the European Union Commission - The ESB Reutlingen Track, has evolved over time with the addition of partner colleges from more countries. The program is more focused on International Management / General Management, whereas PGDM is the traditional MBA program offered by SP Jain Institute where you specialize in one of the following: Finance, Operations, Marketing, or Information Management.

If you choose PGDM, you will learn more about managing the finances, operations, marketing, and IT for a company. In contrast, GMP teaches you how to handle Business Operations of a company in an international setting, which requires you to learn subjects like International Business Law, International Trade and Finance, and International Economics. These subjects talk about how laws in different countries vary and what needs to be taken care of when doing business with a company from a particular country. In addition, subjects like Entrepreneurship and Management Consulting teach you about the factors that nurture a culture of Entrepreneurship at a country level and the art of facilitation for solving business problems.

One significant difference between the two programs is that in PGDM, you make a vast personal network of professionals in India. However, in GMP, you make a vast personal network of professionals across the globe, which is essential for International Business. Your extended network is bigger than you imagine in various ways, such as making a network with the students in the country you go to and your classmates who are your extended network in other countries. If you go to ESB Reutlingen, your primary network is going to be very diverse as Reutlingen University is the most international university in Germany.

Which is better for Marketing: SPJIMR or IIM Indore?

SM
Saksham Malhotra Posted On : January 24th, 2023
PGDM in Marketing & Consulting, S. P. Jain Institute of Management and Research (SPJIMR)

Marketing is a focal point at SPJIMR. The marketing faculty is brilliant and extremely enthusiastic about their subjects. The faculty is welcoming and open to discussions about current events. Some of the professors are from US universities.

The course comprises interesting projects, guest lectures from industry experts and alums, and workshops that will keep you busy all day. "Fieldwork" is given a lot of credit. There are enough role clarification sessions to give you a clear picture of what the Sales and Marketing roles entail. They have interesting concepts like "A Day in the Life of a Salesman," in which students shadow a salesman on the job, a Capstone project that gives you a comprehensive understanding of marketing, and so on.

The curriculum's best feature is that it is kept as current and relevant as possible. In fact, you might want to join the Marketing Area Committee during your first year to gain more experience in this field. Digital marketing is also taken very seriously in this company. The batch profile is extremely powerful. Many of them have come from core sales/advertising roles, and their contributions to the class are significant. The good news is that we have "Autumn Internships," so by the time we have to interview for companies, we have a good idea of what the roles entail and where we want to go. Marketing Batch placements are also good.

Which is better between SPJIMR Finance and IIM Lucknow? Why is SP Jain always compared to IIM Indore, Kozhikode but not IIM Lucknow?

SL
Saija Luthra Posted On : January 24th, 2023
Lived in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India

SPJIMR is superior to IIM Lucknow. Of course, IIM Lucknow is a larger and more well-known brand, but the program and course structure at SPJIMR is excellent. They have an updated curriculum that is in line with industry demands.

The small batch size is a significant advantage at SPJIMR. The student-teacher ratio is favorable, and interaction between the two is required. They have ethics-based learning, a rural internship program with an NGO, and a 3-week course for the entire batch at top business schools in the United States. All in all, it is a well-designed course. Because of the Batch size advantage, the average placements are also better. After all, placements are important. But it all comes down to personal preference. You could make a reference to a larger brand. Non-MBAs/aspirants may be unaware of the opportunities available at SP Jain. However, you can rest assured that your MBA journey at SPJIMR will be fruitful.

What is the admission process of SPJIMR, Mumbai?

DS
Devendra Singh Posted On : March 15th, 2023
Studied at SPJIMR

SPJIMR has a unique approach to candidate selection, where calls are given based on the applicant's overall profile, including past academic scores, extracurricular activities, leadership skills, and other factors. More than merely achieving a certain percentile is required to guarantee admission, and even candidates with 99+ percentiles can be rejected. Shortlisting is based on evaluating profiles, and applicants are sorted into two groups: Profile-based and Profile-cum-Score-based.

Candidates are then evaluated on various factors, such as academic background, work experience, entrance scores, versatility, and achievements, to determine their suitability for admission.

After the initial shortlisting, applicants must fill out a more descriptive form. To avoid scheduling conflicts with other business school interviews, it is recommended that applicants take advantage of this opportunity and attend the interview.

The selection process involves a psychometric test, a group interview 1 focusing on academic qualifications, work experience, and extracurricular activities, and a group interview 2 assessing candidates' values and ethics. Honesty and confidence are crucial for success, as any attempt to fake it will likely be detected.

Which is better, IIM Kozhikode or SP Jain Mumbai?

YS
Yashmeet Singh Posted On : May 20th, 2022
PGPM Information Management, S. P. Jain Institute of Management and Research (2016)

SP Jain Mumbai is better than IIM Kozhikode, especially for marketing. IIM Kozhikode has a huge batch strength, so the deviation between the highest and lowest salary packages is higher.  This is not the case for SP Jain. As it has a compact batch size, each student gets fair opportunities in placements. SP Jain placements have been pretty good over the last few years. During the 2022 placement drive, students received an average CTC of INR 30 LPA.
