Dr. Sunil Chauhan is the Head of the BCA Department at Maharishi Arvind Institute of Science and Management. He has been part of MAISM since 2014. He has done B.Sc, M.Sc (CS), M.Tech (CS), M.Phil and MBA. He has worked as a programmer and system analyst for 8 years, as a teaching and administrative faculty for the last 25 years (including 8 years as a and Vice-principal for 10 years).

What are your roles and responsibilities towards the students?

"To monitor all activities of department and provide appropriate guidance"

Being the head of the department, I am responsible for the following:

  • To provide strong academic leadership by motivating my students and staff and providing them with best opportunities to learn and grow.
  • To lead, manage and develop the department to ensure it achieves the highest possible standard.
  • To maintain discipline.
  • To Include industry internship and value-added courses in the curriculum.

How do you establish healthy relations with the students and fellow faculties?

"By making energetic discussions and resolving their queries on time"

In order to ensure a cordial relationship with my students, I use a few simple techniques like I teach them with full enthusiasm and passion, and keeping a positive attitude while I listen to their queries. I also make sure to make learning fun. Besides all this, I remain in touch with them outside college as well and provide my full support to resolve their personal issues as well.

How do you strategize and update the curriculum to make it befitting for the students?

"We give our suggestions to BOS to include the latest courses and training"

While drafting and updating our curriculum, we develop learning targets and common formative assessments after rigorous analysis of the learning needs of our students on an individual basis. As we are running courses that are accredited to the University of Rajasthan and its courses get updated every 2/3 years. But as one of our faculty members is a member of the board of studies, we suggest BOS through our faculty about the inclusion of new courses as per the demand of Industry. 

What are your views on the placements and higher education of the students from your department?

"We are equally focused in both the areas and our students are doing great"

To provide the best placement opportunities to our students, our college does have a dedicated placement cell. Next, the BCA program which we are offering in our institute comes with tremendous opportunities in terms of growth and learning.

How do you prepare your students to cope with this competitive world?

"We organize various kinds of professional meet-ups and workshops"

We conduct various kinds of activities in this respect including workshops, seminars and expert sessions by industry professionals, to give exposure to students about industrial development and expectations from students.

In your opinion, what are some of the major challenges of the Indian education system?

"Lack of proper curriculum and evaluation methods"

In my viewpoint, the major challenges which are present in the Indian education system is the lack of proper curriculum development and monitoring and evaluation.

Any valuable advice would you like to give to the students for a prosperous career ahead?

"Keep learning new skills and be dedicated towards your goals"

I would like to suggest to my students that they discover new internship opportunities and also take part in work-study programs. Keep upgrading your skills and pursue your passion with full focus.
