Working in the architecture and designing field gives you the option to bring changes in the society we live in. Studying architecture plays an important role in our daily lives, making it a career with impact for many students. Thus to help students know all future prospects of this emerging sector, the Centre of Design Excellence (CODE)-VGU, Jaipur in association with CollegeDunia conducted The Design Lab, the biggest online workshop. The learners got a unique and holistic learning experience to kick off their creative journey. The workshop was organized from May 25 to May 30, 2021 and students get real insights of the business world.

What is The Design Lab??

The Design Lab is an innovative measure taken to help students get the real insights into the fashion, design, and architecture courses. The Design Lab is an online workshop allowing learners to gain insights into the course they are interested in by:

  • Helping them interact with faculty

  • Outlook on the curriculum 

  • Arranging creative workshops, etc. 

Workshops conducted in The Design Lab

Fashion Illustration & Sketching

In this workshop, the learners are provided with the basics of sketching and illustration defining pencils, shading, color mediums. The workshop proved beneficial for the students in understanding body proportions and postures of male and female croquis. To help get practical knowledge, the workshop includes an exercise related to male-female body proportions, pencil shading, color medium exploration, and application.The workshop was taken by Ms. Aparna Yadav (Visiting Faculty) and the duration of the workshop was 2 Hours.

Historical costumes Styling

This workshop helps students in getting a broader understanding of costume history of various Indian and western periods. The students get to know about the concepts of fashion styling, and the art of styling, inspired from a specific period. The workshop further improves design sensitization and helped students know about some essential styling tips. The workshop was taken by Mr.Rahul Mayank (Internal Faculty) and the duration of the workshop was 1.5 hour +1/ 2 Hours.

Workshop  - Architecture inspired by nature (Biomimicry)

This workshop helped get an idea of how architects can take inspiration from nature and its elements and use their creative skills in constructing buildings. Some of the amazing architectural construction work from across the world include Filippo Brunelleschi's Florence cathedral, Eiffel tower, Beijing National Stadium, etc. The Biomimicry workshop encourages people with creative minds to create nature-inspired solutions for sustainable life on a healthy planet. The workshop included some brain-challenging activities allowing participants to work in groups and design a building inspired by the nature on their own. This activity turned to be an encouraging brainstorming round.

The workshop was taken by Ar. Sneha Arora and the duration of the workshop was 1 hour +1/ 2 Hours.

Workshop - Cities and their buildings

A detailed lecture on cities can be linked with certain historical landmarks. Quoting enough examples of cities from across the world, the workshop includes brief conversation regarding the history behind those landmarks. Creative activity was included where the participants were asked to design a postcard for their city based on their learning from the session.

Workshop - Introduction to the world of User experience

This workshop was a combination of lecture and activity and included many real-life case studies with examples that helped made concepts clear to the students. It was a highly interactive online session aimed at enhancing understanding related to product and service from a user experience point of view. The workshop started with an interactive activity to push you to imagine new ideas and brainstorm solutions. The duration of the workshop was three hours including an activity aswell.

Workshop - UX Careers and trends

This workshop was more like an interactive session focusing on career opportunities in the field of UX Design and how one can benefit from the same. Students doing a course in UX Careers and trends get to know about the trending professions they can opt for post completing the program. The main purpose of arranging this workshop was to help show the success path in this filed. The workshop was taken by Oppo Indian Design Head - Munwar Khan and the duration of the workshop was 1 hour and 30 minutes (includibg a QnA).

Workshop - "Profession with United Nations Sustainable Goals" 

Students got a chance to explore the best career opportunities with the United Nations as they aim to achieve their Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. With so many climatic changes, the demand for budding designers are also increasing rapidly. The workshop duration was two-hour aimed to made students equip with knowledge of the courses that help make them industry-ready. The workshop was taken by Mr. Ashu Gupta and the duration of the workshop was 2 hour.

The Design Lab, India’s biggest online workshop, which was conducted in partnership with the Centre of Design Excellence was a huge success among the students. The learners who attended this workshop got a unique and holistic learning experience that can help them start their career.

About CODE-VGU Jaipur

The Centre For Design Excellence (CODE), Jaipur, which came into existence in 2016, is the constituent of Vivekananda Global University (VGU). The institute today is one of the most preferred institutes of Design & Architecture Education in the country. The institute is know for its placements. Some of the courses offered by CODE include B.
