You have held key positions at the Institute throughout your career. What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?

"So, first of all, what I can say is, your dedication is supposed to be there"

I have always believed that one should go for what one likes doing. There are three things that I follow: dedication, devotion, and determination. I follow these and my interest and passion to teach, guide and help students to grow keeps me associated & connected with the education sector.

Being a senior most position of your college, what is the philosophy of leadership that you believe? How would you describe your leadership style?

"First thing is that I am supposed to be honest. I believe honesty is the best policy"

Then definitely the 3D Leadership model that I follow. If I am not honest to my job, I cannot be a good leader. It will only show a bad example in front of the students whom I teach. Students see their teachers as mentors and if they see their teachers engaged in unwanted or dishonest practices, it creates a very bad impression, and the teacher cannot be seen as a leader for the students.

The education system in India and other countries are structured very differently. So, in your experience, what can an inbound student gain from studying in your institute?

What I feel about India is that we are following the theoretical subjects but for the technical issues, we are supposed to go for practical classes. Unfortunately, we don't have that many opportunities or that much infrastructure in major institutes in India. So, this is one of the main difficulties here in India. We at The New Horizon Institute of Technology are focusing on skill development (soft skills, technical skills for the emerging industry trends) and trying to develop practical applications of the concepts in our institute and we follow that. We ensure that we are improving on that front and give the student a more practical based understanding.

Any insights into how your college could be more welcoming to the students of different races or economic backgrounds?

"the primary duty of institutes is to provide help to the society in whatever way possible"

We follow equality and we are trying different initiatives related to helping such students, be it financially or by providing them with the required facilities. With the help of our management, we are focusing on providing study materials at subsidized rates, access to knowledge (database) and lower fee structure to such students. Such initiatives should be there because you see, institutes are running in societies.

What do you think should be your institute’s top priority in the next 10 yrs?

I believe diversity is very important, and for an institute, imparting knowledge is the key. The domain should not be restricted to one course/industry. Hence, apart from engineering, we are also focusing on starting important medical and administrative courses in our institute. By utilizing our infrastructure and the facilities that we have & want to develop, we want to be a big brand in the education sector in the next 5 yrs in Eastern India. We have the required skills and the infrastructure is getting improved. We are working on making facilities and we aim to achieve our goal of imparting quality education at a reasonable cost.

What do you see as your institute’s greatest strength?

"We believe in honesty and not providing false information. We believe in transparency and showing what we have done and are doing"

We don’t want to put inflated figures with respect to facilities, placements, courses, achievements, etc. Such activities actually provide unrealistic expectations to the students. Hence, we are as transparent as we can, especially with respect to the things that are related directly to students.

Any suggestions you would like to give to the current youth and the aspiring students?

One of the most important suggestions that I would like to give is to stay away from mobiles at least during college hours. Try to spend more time on learning and gaining knowledge, rather than spending precious time on doing unnecessary tasks on mobile. In this digital age, mobile is definitely important, but spending time judiciously is also very important.
