What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?

“Educational institutes should help elevate the standard of education and help achieve the students’ aspirations”

I have been in Academics since 1978. Starting with research and then shifting to higher education and research in reputed Universities. Universities are places of discovery through learning and research; transmitting, developing, and creating knowledge for the nation's growth. Good academic institutions should be steep in the community and should also address the education needs of distant populations. They should also fulfill local aspirations to retain their national and international character both in faculty & students and help them be global in the active post-academic life. Nowadays, Ethics and equity are the buzzwords for any right academic institution.

How do you strategize about the key programs and plans for the marketing and administration of your school?

“New skills will soon outweigh traditional skills”

Our focus is to develop individuals who can become a good human resource for the country. In alignment to this ideology our focus is to keep our pedagogy industry-centric. New skills, such as strategic management ability, commitment and personal motivation may outweigh the traditional skills previously seen as important. To meet these challenges, the strategies should be:

  • University centric
  • Student centric
  • Faculty centric

The education systems in India and other foreign countries are structured very differently. What are your views upon it?

“Education sector has observed a massive transformation in the past”

Higher education has undergone an academic revolution during the last 50 years marked by unprecedented transformations. Globalization, a key reality in the 21st century, has already profoundly influenced higher education and research. Considering this dynamic process we think globally, but act locally.

How does the curriculum of your institute ensure the best practice of industry?

“We make sure students are aligned with the current industry standards”

The landscape of teaching and learning has radically shifted in the last 15 years. The Best Practices were chosen here to focus on those aspects of classroom teaching competence visible to oneself and others and thus become useful for formative evaluation. Lecture Practices should include group discussions, thoughtful questions, and active learning strategies, etc.

Any insights into how your university could be more welcoming to students of different races or economic backgrounds?

“We prepare students for global experience”

The University’s mission is to promote and prepare students for global competitiveness by fostering educational excellence and ensuring equal access. The University provides the participation of underrepresented students at multiple points across the higher education pipeline. The University ensures that the interaction of race and ethnicity, family income, and parental education does not influence educational outcomes.

What do you think should be the Institute's top priority over the next 10 years?

“The University’s priority is to excel in education and research”

The University is ethically engaged and steep in the community to address various issues. It will soon be nationally accredited and ranked among top Universities in India.

Effective learning will be inspired to enable students to succeed beyond their expectations. AIPHU will be mission-centric to maximize its impact in the country as well as in the world.

What would you like people to know about your university they may not know?

“A place to learn and explore is what the institute is meant for”

It is a firm institute for higher learning and research in health-related areas. The philosophy behind the University is highly laudable. The University commits itself to excellence with high-quality teaching and research. It will produce good human beings along with degree holders.

What do you see as AIPH UNIVERSITY, BHUBANESWAR Institutes’ greatest strengths?

“It is the second Public Health University and first of its kind in eastern India”

Public health-related education and research has a very high potential in India. Along with public health, India needs more substantial health economics elements, social work, behavior change communication, and applied psychology. Biostatistics and mathematical modeling of health issues and for disaster forecasting; and environmental and climate change problems. AIPH University can significantly contribute to these directions.

What are some of the biggest challenges you see, both for higher education in general and for your institute specifically?

“It is imperative to focus on quality in all dimensions”

Retaining the good quality faculty members. Creation of good infrastructure and a conducive ecosystem for research. Maintenance of high end equipments over time ( otherwise the Universities may become graveyards for important equipments after few years, if not maintained properly through annual maintenance contracts, for which funds are required to be allocated)

Any suggestions you would like to give to the current youth and the aspiring students?

“Students should explore ventures where they think they can build their career”

The current youth don’t find the teaching profession attractive. To make teaching lucrative, faculty should be encouraged to undertake consultancy and be provided financial support for start-ups. Some strategies may be followed to address lack of employable skills such as industry-institute student training support, industrial challenge open forum, long-term student industry placement, etc.

What are some plans that you’re currently (or will be) designing for the institute's international affairs and/or students?

“We want to leave our mark of excellence globally”

Foreign collaboration has become an essential component of international ratings. There should be an international office at the university to make and implement agreements with foreign institutions of teaching and research, searching for opportunities for international scholarships and research funding for the University academic community; Promoting international events in the University, etc.
