Prof. Rohini Sawant has been associated with Symbiosis School of Planning Architecture and Design for the last 2 years. She is an experienced professional with a focus on architectural design. She is an expert in Client handling, Concept creation, market surveys, and market analysis. She worked as a Junior Architecture after completing a Bachelor of Architecture from MIET, Nagpur University. In addition to this, she also completed Interior Space and Equipment Design at MIT Institute of Design, Pune. She started her career as Industrial Design Intern and now working as an Assistant Professor. Using her corporate experience, she is able to share knowledge about Representation Techniques, Ergonomics, Architectural Documentation, and much more, with the students.

The scope of research in related fields for faculties and students gives a new dimension to the students to study beyond the syllabus as well.


What are some myths that students have related to the course Bachelor in Design (B. Des), which are not actually true?

Designing is something that is only aesthetics and it is majorly related to fashion this myth is common amongst the student but which is completely wrong Design is the technical field where aesthetics is part of the process and there are various streams in designing which a student can opt for as per there interest. It is not only restricted to fashion.


What are the factors that make the Bachelor in Design (B. Des) program of SSPAD, Nagpur the best for students to opt for?

Yes, students should work on their Sketching and thinking abilities before joining the design.


How do you build the industry connection in this program at SSPAD, Nagpur?

At SSPAD the course curriculum itself has some courses which they have to complete in the industry as internship and degree projects. Apart from these curriculum structure institutes organizes various industry activity like Industry academia conclave, and competitions for students under the guidance of industry e.g., SSPAD along with TASL (TATA advanced system limited.) organized a competition for the students at SSPAD. Institute has an active placement cell that connects students with industry smoothly for their internship, degree project, and placement. 


What are the types of projects that students are working on through this Bachelor of Design (B. Des) Program at SSPAD, Nagpur?

Architectural projects, Exhibition designing, Branding, visual merchandising, toy designing, lifestyle product designing, household appliances designing (Product Designing), Residential and commercial interior designing, furniture designing, system designing, UI/UX Designing, AR/VR Designing, etc.

Do you have any extracurricular activities/ programs to enhance the skills of the students or expose them to real-world challenges?

Institute offers a platform for students to work with the artisans so that the students get exposure to see and learn the various technical and aesthetical aspects of designing the art and craft of India. The student council of the institute conducts various events at the institute which gives the opportunity to students to showcase their expertise and skill to society. Through the internship and graduation projects, students get the platform to understand the system and work culture of the industry.

A bachelor of design is a field where technicality meets up with aesthetics and requires good skills to enhance society through their work in various fields. Designing cannot be taught only with books it requires a practical approach and takes up the things to the solution.
