Dr. Selvaraj has completed his B.Com in the Alagappa University and MBA and Ph.D. in the Periyar University Located at Salem in 2004. He started his career as a lecturer in 2000 and later he was promoted as a Head of Commerce in the year 2003 in the PMP Arts and Science College. In 2005, He started his career in the Jayam College of Engineering in the MBA department. In 2006, he was promoted as head of the Department in Jayam College of Engineering. In the year 2011, He shifted to OAA MAVMM School of Management located in Madurai and continued his career as HOD and in the year 2018, he was promoted as the Principal of OAA MAVMM School of Management and continued his work.

What are the key factors that kept you in the best positions at educational institutes?

“Satisfaction, Best Vision and exact implementation are the Key Factors”

First of all, I am answering this as a faculty, not as a Principal. While teaching the students the faculties will get the satisfaction that they are doing the job which helps the people to lift the life. Here majorly we are not working as a teacher we are guiding the students to get a better future. We are making the students consult with the faculties to know about the current industries by our friendly nature. OAA MAVMM joined the Education industry to lift the students forward. The management also has strict hygiene on this by doing this practice.

What is your philosophy of leadership?

“The concept of Democracy best explains the essence of Leadership”

I support democracy. According to me, a Leader’s life is for people in the same way as the Teacher’s life is for their students. A leader should not be bossy. He should lead and make the followers comfortable to discuss everything to get a better solution.

How do you strategize about the key plans for the marketing and administration of your Institute?

“Our students are the promoters for the Marketing and Administration of the Institute”

I have taken charge as a principal for OAA in the year 2018. Till then OAA didn’t do any marketing activities to promote the brand. Now, we are doing general brand awareness like the Facebook page for OAA and websites. And the students had a huge hope and believed us. We showed good performance and by word of mouth our brand got spread. Students are the only ambassador of our brand. We are giving full freedom to the students wherever we can. Because of that, they act as a leader, they act as a promoter for the college.

What can an inbound student gain from studying here in your college?

“Inbound students hope for the best quality education due to the presence of a best-updated curriculum”

Students are not getting knowledge from books. They are getting it from practical experience. In foreign countries, they are not doing chalk and talk. They are giving a lot of experiments to be solved. Because of this the quality of the students to solve the problem is enhanced. But in OAA, we are doing activities like solving the case study and making the students get industry experience. Because of this our students led the crowd and achieved some of the highest positions in the work they are doing. The main reason is because of the problem-solving skills they improved due to the activity they have done.

How do you make the Course Curriculum industry-oriented?

“To Organise Industry-oriented programs. Industrial visit and Industrial Talks”

We are following the Anna University standard syllabus which is one of the highly understandable and equipped ones. By the corporate rules and regulations, we are supporting the students with the industry standard. By this, the students can easily adapt to the corporate world. 

How could your university be more welcoming to students of different races or economic backgrounds?

“To promote unity in the diversity Concept in College by offering free courses”

OAA is a non-profit organisation. Like most of the students are studying for free if the student is a first-year graduate. And the students from the MAVMM group of colleges who are interested in doing their higher studies are not charging anything.

What do you think should be the college’s top priority over the next 10 years?

“College’s top priority is to be one of the top institutes in Tamilnadu by becoming more industry-oriented”

The students here get more knowledge through practical rather than by just studying. By doing this the students can get the problem-solving skills which are good for the students further.College focuses on making the students more and more industry oriented. This is one of the top priorities over the 10 years. 

What are the biggest challenges both for higher education in general and for BITM specifically? 

“To ensure continuous education for students coming from rural backgrounds”

Here in OAA, the students are basically from rural backgrounds. So, the challenge here is the curriculum to get understood by the students. We are having a highly equipped staff and they are doing the best way to teach and get the students on track. My main vision is to develop the college standard and make the college into one of the best b schools in Tamilnadu. This is by increasing the standard of the courses which makes the students get more enthusiastic and increase their standard.

How do you tend to establish a healthy environment in your institute?

“To organize various interactive sessions for clearing the doubts of students”

As I mentioned before we are friendly to the students.By this students can ask doubts wherever and whenever they can and we are helping to solve their doubts. And also making the students understand the concept till they are confident with it. OAA MAVMM organinses interactive sessions at regular intervals. We also arrange the guest lectures from outside. Next is that the staff are more interactive and keep the students engaged. Our College is situated in the most beautiful place where it is surrounded by mountains. Our staff is highly equipped and friendly. Due to this the students and staff are more interactive.

What advice would you give to the upcoming aspiring students?

“Students should focus on higher studies rather than just taking Job”

Please go for higher studies and learn a lot. And while choosing the job don’t go beyond the money. Please choose how much learning we are getting. By learning, the industry will always open us to earn more. Keep yourself updated according to the recent demands of the Industries and and enhance your skills at regular intervals by pursuing various online MOOC courses for the platforms like Coursera, NPTEL and EDX.
