Dr. S. Arivarasan has been working as the Head of Agriculture Department at Vels Institute of Science, Technology and Advanced Studies, Chennai, Tamil Nadu. He has done B. Sc. in Agriculture, M. Sc. in Agricultural Economics and PhD as part of his academics and he has also qualified NET exam which is conducted by the Agricultural Scientist Recruitment Board, New Delhi. He has won the Young Scientist National Award and the Best Researcher Award from various Institutions. Also he has 8 years of teaching experience. Apart from all this, he has published 14 research papers in National and International Journals, authored 2 books, 13 book chapters 13 Abstracts along with full-length articles in National and International Level conference, seminars and symposiums. And to create awareness among people for farming societies, he has published 10 popular articles. He is also the Life Member of Trends in Biosciences, Trends in Biotechnology and Biological Sciences, Advances in Life Sciences, Green Reap Welfare Society, Indian Academic Researchers Association and Agricultural Scientific Tamil Society.

For the purpose of ensuring that students receive the best education and teachers remain updated with the latest trends and developments of both educational and industrial world trends, our college conducts Faculty Development Programs after a certain interval of time and also encourages faculties to participate in inter-college and intra-college events, workshops and seminars. And in return faculty use PowerPoint presentations and conduct a lot of experiments to teach students.


How do you build an industry connectedness with the programs of your institute?

Our college organizes industrial and field visits for students as and when required and we also offer training programs to students in agriculture sectors like Biotechnology, Sugar Mill, Sericulture and Cotton Ginning etc. The main aim of this approach is to ensure overall personal and professional development of students.
