What are your roles and responsibilities towards the students?

“Providing an environment for academic and holistic development”

Being a Faculty of the Department of English, my prime role is to deliver my teaching pedagogy in a manner that enables my students to acquire communicative competence and develop confidence in the use of language. Diversifying teaching methods and focusing on making the lessons more interactive, interesting and giving opportunity to every student and enabling him/her to bring out the best are my roles towards the students. I help the students overcome their fears and weaknesses, and adhere to positive expectations. Moreover, I enable them to have a positive attitude, be compassionate, enthusiastic and incorporate the element of humour and storytelling to get along with the students.

How do you tend to establish healthy relations with the fellow faculty?

“Regular communication and discussions”

I always encourage my fellow faculty to present their ideas without any inhibitions. I engage in constructive discussions so as to know each other’s viewpoint and respect it as well. Also, I motivate them to be ethically strong and morally grounded, so that students learn the same. Drawing examples from personal and professional life strengthens the bond and connection.

How do you try to bring in a practical approach towards subjects?

“Comprehensive and more futuristic approaches”

We have a learner-centric approach wherein the learners are provided a platform to develop their subjective as well as cognitive skills. Our department focuses on LSRW skills and supports students in learning for themselves as a self-explorer. Moreover, we provide a unique learning environment which reflects the students’ life in societal, intellectual and linguistic occurrences. The diverse learning needs are balanced by incorporating differential teaching strategies for slow and quick learners.

How do you strategize the curriculum and make it befitting for the students?

“Developing skills and making students employable”

The curriculum is contemporary and is designed keeping in view the needs of the industry and employability. Minor updations to the curriculum are made as and when required keeping in view the needs and expectations of the academic and professional world. In order to make the students industry ready, employable and help them pursue higher education, language skills training is imparted to them. Developing interview skills, presentation skills, conducting mock interviews, group discussions and teaching professional etiquette and mannerisms are some of the aspects that are covered in the curriculum itself.

How do you help your student to cope up with the high competition outside?

“Attributing skills and confidence to face competitions”

Various teaching-learning methodologies such as flipped classroom, outcome based learning, collaborative learning etc. are used so as to help the students develop confidence, expression and the ability to look through the situation from the right perspective. Practice and feedback mechanism is adopted to enable them to be effective communicators and carve a niche for themselves even in adverse circumstances. In addition, knowing one’s potential and motivating them to nurture it and use it as a strong measure to outshine others is being taught.

What approaches do you bring in apart from curriculum to train the students?

“Empowering students with diverse professional and personal skills”

We act as a learner, facilitator, assessor, manager and evaluator, thereby enabling the students to attain their professional and personal goals. We always inculcate and encourage out of the box thinking and cultivate sensitivity towards the use of language in the appropriate contexts. Also, the Performing Arts Club run by the department encourage students to participate in the activities as bringing out the University Magazine, developing content for news and events for the University website, organize and take part in plays, open-mic, debate, extempore and various competitions to exhibit their talent and get over stage fright and develop their skills. The University organizes Panache-the techno-cultural fest, Eminence-the sports fest, HR Conclave- the Management fest as well. The students are guided for anchoring, rapporteur, report writing and overall management in these fests and all the activities conducted year round.
