Dr Deepak Vyas is the Professor and HOD, Department of Chemistry at SPSU, Udaipur. He has teaching and research experience of about 21 years with several administrative positions at the Department and University level. He is actively involved in research problems based on Environmental studies including water and soil pollutions.Also, guided several research scholars during research and is presently working in the capacity of Proctor, Incharge Sports, Overall Club Incharge, Presiding Officer for Examination, Chairman Anti-ragging committee and several other important committees of the University.

What are your roles and responsibilities towards the students?

“The primary role is to deliver the content of various Engineering chemistry courses with responsibility”

Teaching students efficiently so they may easily understand and grasp the chemical and environmental chemistry concepts is my main aim. The students need to be able to apply the chemistry and applied chemistry knowledge to the relevant engineering or management streams. We are also involved in designing and updating curricula, designing examination questions, evaluating and grading the performance of students with utmost responsibility. 

How do you tend to establish healthy relations with the students and fellow faculty?

“Creating an open communication channel helps in this domain”

Establishing healthy relations depends on the ability and understanding level of the students. Thus by understanding the priorities, likes-dislikes and their goals we maintain a positive environment. I try to determine and figure out the action steps to help them in achieving their right goals and excel in studies and extracurricular activities.

How do you try to bring in a practical approach towards subjects?

“To emphasize the potential applications of Chemistry in the field"

By discussing every topic of the subject with necessary prerequisites and by pointing out the potential applications of Chemistry. The students, engineers and Management experts need to understand the necessity of the subject and create interest in learning.

How do you strategize the curriculum and how often it gets updated?

“Taking into account industry feedback, modern trends and UGC-AICTE norms"

The Chemistry courses are designed with utmost responsibility from the view of Objective-Based Education. This is done as per the suggestions of the core Engineering and Management departments, course teachers, industry feedbacks, modern trends and UGC-AICTE norms. The curricula can be updated immediately on receiving any new updates through the above-mentioned criteria. All curricula are subject to the approval of the Board of Studies and Academic Council of SPSU.

What are your views on the placements of the students from your department?

“Excellent record of placement in Pharma companies and research institutes”

Our students, especially from the BT department have been placed in the Pharma industry as well as in research-based government institutions. We are proud of the hard working and dedicated students of the college. We provide placement training and academic support to all our eligible students.

What are the challenges you are facing to uplift the quality of education of your department?

“The basics of Chemistry are not taught properly at earlier school level”

The Chemistry and environmental based curricula, books, and teaching of several schools are not providing the necessary and sufficient exposure to the fundamentals of the subject. This has placed a challenge before us to develop certain strategies and schemes to help the students from overcoming the previous school-level Chemistry weaknesses.

What are the interventions you bring in apart from the curriculum to train the students?

“Our students always receive practical training in addition to the regular courses”

We always believe in practical training of the students, besides the regular courses. This allows the students to attain the ability to clear various placement drives, interviews, and competitive examinations with utmost confidence.

What valuable advice would you give the students for a prosperous career ahead? 

“Hard work and dedication are essential factors for learning any subject”
