How do you strategize about the key programs and plan for the marketing and administration of your institute?

“Transitioning from the new normal to the next normal”

In the new dynamics of the education sector, we are redefining our strategies for running our key programs. The new National Education Policy will also play an important role in our strategies for program structures, wherein, education aimed towards practical implementation of classroom learning will be given due thrust. So far as our marketing plans are concerned, digital marketing comprising website publicity, our YouTube channel and social media marketing would now be given more prominence. Innovative initiatives such as alumni referrals, strategic industry tie-ups for good placements, offering options for programs through our newly established online education vertical and so on, will be made good use of.

What do you think about how the COVID-19 has hit the education industry?

“Because everything comes with advantages and disadvantages”

Covid-19 has hit almost every sector so the impact on the education sector has been direct as well as indirect. Student admissions have been the first factor to bear the brunt. Research projects and government research grants have also been affected due to lockdowns and economic slowdown. However, COVID-19 proved to be the biggest disruption in human history viewed in the backdrop of the world being forced to adopt online education. There was no choice for anyone. What would otherwise have taken a few decades to move to adopt online education, especially in the third world countries due to lack of resources or infrastructure, COVID-19 hastened online. Therefore, I do not see or say that COVID-19 has hit the education sector but I see it as an agent that allowed the world to adopt technology instantaneously.

What is your opinion on the National Education Policy 2020?

“Has the potential to be a game-changer”

NEP 2020 is a welcome initiative waiting to happen for many years. It has provided for School Education, Higher Education, Teacher Education among others. If seen from a large perspective, it can be said that there is a shift from the British system of education to leaning towards the US education system. The thrust of School Education is proposed to move from ‘what to learn’ to ‘how to learn’ which, when sincerely implemented, will see a total transformation of education in India. The recommendation that every PhD aspirant must undergo teacher training no matter what domain he or she is pursuing research will boost the quality of teaching and will immensely contribute to enhanced levels of teaching-learning. Further, the NEP 2020 will ensure and encourage those universities which are multidisciplinary and transdisciplinary in the true sense, instead of stand-alone institutions proclaiming themselves as deemed universities. Education for transformation is another important initiative taken up and highlighted by NEP 2020.

What are some plans that you are currently designing for MIT World Peace University Pune, and its students?

“Helping them cope with the adversities”

Taking care of the human side and ‘confidence-building’ are the foremost tasks that we have taken up as essential plans for every one of our students on the campus. The pandemic has shaken the confidence and morale of the students as well as parents who are worried about their future in terms of education, career and overall prosperity. MIT WPU is already implementing an extensive plan for not only providing the best quality education but also to provide financial cushioning by offering instalment payments in fees, career support by organizing innovative placement drives and internships, holistic guidance by arranging counselling sessions for physical well-being and mental health, morale booster events like alumni meets, twinning programs with the international universities and so on.

What is your philosophy of leadership? How would you describe your leadership style?

“Considering myself as a leader first”

The captain’s role must be of ensuring that everyone plays his/her role to perfection. To elaborate further, my style of leadership is to first listen fully and patiently, understand and analyze and then arrive at a well-informed decision which is all-inclusive and for the larger benefit of the institution. I strongly believe in institutional systems more than personal preferences. The systems can be discussed and deliberated but once they are in place, all we need to do is to follow them in the letter and spirit. For motivating my staff to be on the way to perfection, patiently discouraging the wrongs and actively encouraging the rights is my simple way of leading them.

When you came to the MIT World Peace University, what was your vision and how are you trying to achieve the same?

“To be recognized globally for its excellence”

The onset of my association with MIT WPU as its Vice-Chancellor is relatively recent. After joining, my prime vision for our glorious institution was and always is, to make it an academic conglomerate imparting value based education in multidisciplinary domains and make it an internationally acclaimed university. As baby steps towards achieving those aims, various initiatives of discipline such as punctuality, adherence to laid down systems and other such efforts are being implemented.
