Mrs. Veena Shenoy is the Assistant Professor in the Department of HR at the ISBR Business School, Bangalore. She has 16 years of rich experience in Industry and academics. She is pursuing her Ph.D. currently and has completed M.Com with a Gold medal and stood the first rank in the University and also Post Graduate in Master of Business Administration (M.B.A), Post Graduate Diploma in Industrial Relations and Personnel Management. She has presented and published more than 35 papers in national and international conferences and journals. She has co-authored a book titled “Introduction to Rural Marketing. She was a resource person for MDP and FDP organized by other institutions on the subject matter, the art of writing research articles, literature mapping, and the role of research for undergraduate students.
What are your roles and responsibilities towards the students?
“To help them understand the corporate world and make a successful career in it”
My responsibility is providing quality education through facilitating experiential learning to students and influencing the lives of many more HR aspirants. We are making them industry-ready with lots of skill-based training and GDPI (Group Discussion and Personal Interview) and making students understand the importance of Psychological Well-being and how to face the challenges in the corporate world.
How do you tend to establish healthy relations with the students and fellow faculty?
“Imparting value in every discussion and thought exchange with learners”
Understanding them from their point of view and giving value to each encounter, with both students and faculty is highly essential these days. And we are also connecting with them emotionally through life skills, social skills, story-telling with situation analysis, and also live cases.
How do you try to bring in a practical approach towards subjects?
“Industry-oriented live projects regarding various verticals of HR”
As a part of HR, we give industry-oriented live projects to students about the different verticals of HR to understand the process at the micro-level. We connect with the industry experts, have interactions, and convert that conversation as live case lets, and we also publish this in various reputed international journals and conferences. We send our students to various HR-oriented conferences for interaction and better networking with HR practitioners. We have diverse industry experts coming in and taking sessions for our students on the current practices as workshops, guest sessions, and certifications.

What are the best practices offered to the students academically?

We have an HR Master class from senior leaders of HR. HR practitioners from TATA, Australian government officials, and practitioners from the USA took sessions on their journeys and challenges they faced in their HR journey. We also do certifications on the industry’s niche skills (Engagement tools used, Gamification, talent acquisition strategies, Global HR Recruitment, People Analytics, Digital HR). We have several workshops and skill-based training from industry experts for the students. Case studies, live projects, and research-paper-based studies increase their critical thinking and analytical skills to have a broader perspective. We provide corporate mentoring for professional counseling to the students for their overall development.
How do you strategize the curriculum, and how often it gets updated?
“Experts revise and update the curriculum based on the latest innovation in the industry”
We have an academic and advisory board of HR. These are from industries with three decades of experience, and they vet the syllabus annually. The faculties have given a free hand to revise and update the curriculum based on innovation in the industry and practices. We give much importance to research-based learning and are updated with the latest trends in the HR world.
What are your views on the placements?
“Training in various areas of soft skills, aptitude and technical knowledge”
We at ISBR Business School organize several workshops and skill-based training from industry experts to the students based on the Job Descriptions pipelined for their placements. We also train them in their aptitude and technical skills. As generation Z is moving ahead and stepping into the corporate world, the challenge is to keep them in pace with the industry expectations. As a result, training them on different verticals of HR is a task to meet the expectations and work in a competitive environment.

How do you help your students thrive in the competitive world?
“Motivate the students with academic and corporate mentoring and provide industry insights”
We give our students a "360 degrees orientation" for 28 days that focus on their personal, social, and professional development. We also assist the students with academic and corporate mentoring and provide industry experts to interact and get broader exposure to the accurate picture. It enhances the skills and knowledge of the industry, and the students also work on different live projects based on real-life industry challenges, which keeps them up to the current scenario. Our students also visit various organizations and have hands-on experience with the best practitioners to understand practices and culture. We interact with the industry by attending management development programs (MDP) and various discussions of HR practitioners.
Do you have any extracurricular activities to enhance the students’ skills?

As a part of the HR club, students interact with the industry and are given the option of visiting companies to interact with HR. We have done Skype interviews with Deloitte, Herman Miller, Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan Chase, ZRPL, Continental, VYMO, Wipro, Infosys, etc. This discussion will be converted as a case based on the objectives of the conversation.
Most fortune companies have the concept of celebrating culture in their organization to engage employees. A similar initiative has been taken by Convergence, ISBR HR Club as Thirsty Thursday. Thirsty Thursday is theme-based, and it is celebrated on the second Thursday of the month to enhance the celebrating culture at ISBR. Team HR will give the theme, and the entire college will represent the theme with their attire.
