Sheetal Mahendher is a Professor and Head, Department of Analytics at ISBR Business School, Bangalore. She is also the Chair, Research and Consulting. She did MCA, MBA, MPhil, and Ph.D. from several Universities. She has more than twenty five years of experience in Industry and Academic Teaching. She has presented and published more than 35 research papers in National and International Journals. She is part of reputed research and consulting projects. She has conducted several workshops in Data Analytics using R, Python, SPSS, Excel having participation from across the globe.
What are your roles and responsibilities?
“Develop the curriculum of courses that cover industrial aspects”
My primary duty is to organize a course curriculum on par with industry requirements. I have the responsibility of revising the programs and essential tools. It is my role to transform the pupils to industrial standards. Moreover, it helps them to become smart workers and understand applications.
How do you bring the subjects as industry-oriented?
“By downloading the live online datasets and practice of data”
The analytics course consists of data applications. It is 85% practical. Live online datasets are downloaded and analysis of data makes the course industry oriented. Several datasets belong to domains like Human Resources, Finance, Marketing, and Operations. It gives overall ideas and applications of concepts to students. The live projects are assigned to candidates every trimester for experience in problem identification, data collection, and building models. It aids in analyzing text data and preparing reports.
How do you build healthy relations with the students and faculty in ISBR Business School?
“Having valuable interactions, discussions, and research work in several areas”
I maintain healthy working with my colleagues and hold meetings and discussions. Moreover, I lead and distribute work to all similarly. I am also contributing to the work when colleagues are leading any event. The discussion of problems and collaboration of work solves the issues. On the other hand, I help the students with research work. Their live projects are published in journals. I support all people on the campus.
How do you strategize the curriculum and get it updated for students?
“Revising curriculum each year helps to solve business problems”
The curriculum is revised every year. It is more application-oriented. So, the students can apply what they learn. It helps them in solving business problems and decision-making. The curriculum covers most of the skills required by the industry. There are additional workshops that update students about their skills.

What are the challenges you faced to uplift the quality of education?
“Design the course for students in a better way”
I have been given complete freedom to design the course on campus. I think it should be the best for students and make them industry oriented. The Management encourages me to uplift the Department to greater heights and have a separate School of Analytics.
What is your vision to achieve success in ISBR Business School?
“Provide the statistics and analytics curriculum at a competitive level”
The crucial part is to design the curriculum of Analytics and Statistics for students. I have added courses that deal with practical applications. A new vertical PGDM in Data Sciences with Microsoft certifications has been designed. lt helps students to meet Industry requirements and become consultants. Moreover, it assists them to own start-ups. On another side, I had the vision to spread the knowledge of Analytics through online workshops, FDPs, and MDPs. I try to achieve consultancy projects for experiential learning for students.
What valuable advice do you like to give the students for a prosperous career?
“Choose a career of your interest”
It is essential to take a job that makes you happy. My advice is to decide the career based on the interest of an individual. An enjoyable career provides the best results. Students should attend lectures of experienced people. A prosperous career is built through hardwork and dedication in the study period. However, internships, live projects, social work, rural immersion develops the personality of a candidate.
