Ms. Alka Pradhan is the Head of the Department at the ShriRam Group Of Colleges, Gwalior. She is an academician who is a firm believer in providing high Powered and Impact Oriented education with main focus on quality improvement. She has completed M.Sc. (Applied Mathematics), Ph.D. (awarded in Bio maths field) and worked in many organizations. Her total teaching experience is of about 20 years and she has received a lifetime membership of ISTE (Indian Society of Technical Education).

What are the challenges you faced to uplift the quality of education of your department?

“The online mode of education during the pandemic has been challenging for us” 

The only challenge that I face in these days of pandemics is the lack of one to one interaction with the students. It leads to poor learning and understanding among each other. Through the means of online education, it’s not only difficult to teach efficiently but very hard for students to get an appropriate environment to learn either.

When you came to this college, what was your vision and how are you trying to achieve it?

“Impart knowledge regarding relevant topics and prepare for future”

Whenever I join any institute my only vision is to make students very clear with their topics and course structure. Conceptual learning is my first preference. This allows students to understand how to prepare for their future studies or career. 

How does the department enhance the skills of the faculty?

“Faculty development programs and hands-on training workshops”

Better teachers support better learning because they are most knowledgeable about the practice of teaching. Well-trained educators are responsible for introducing the curriculum in the classroom. If another party has already developed the curriculum, the teachers have to make an effort to know and understand it. This is done with the help of various FDP’s, courses and hands-on sessions in technology tools of teaching.

What are the interventions you bring in apart from the curriculum to train the students?

“Conducting workshops and organizing frequent industry visits”

In my opinion, more practical exposure for the students can help us achieve the goal of providing holistic education. We regularly conduct workshops, frequently do industry visits to help students get skilful up to the standards of today’s competition.
