Dr V Dhinakaran is a Dean/Professor of the Mechanical Engineering department in the Chennai Institute of Technology. He completed his Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Arulmigu Kalasalingam College of Engineering in 2002 and Master’s Degree in Aeronautical Engineering from Sathyabama University in 2012. Later, he did a PhD programme in welding finite element simulation at NIT, Trichy, in 2017. His interested areas include Finite Element Analysis (FEA), and Computational Fluid Dynamics, Composites, Welding, Additive Manufacturing , Machine Learning and various other fields. He delivered more than 41 lectures at different engineering institutions to advance the knowledge of the faculties, researchers, and students. Dr. V Dhinakaran also published 68 SCIE articles and 107 Scopus indexed articles in peer-reviewed journals. He is the author and editor of various handbooks in research areas published with Elsevier, Taylor Francis, and Springer. He is an Editorial Board member in American Research Journal of Biomedical Engineering, Youth Editorial Board Member of Advanced Powder Materials (APM) and Review Editor in Colloidal Materials and Interfaces. Recently, he was awarded the National Technical Best Teacher’s Award 2022 in recognition of his teaching excellence in technical Education by the Ministry of Education, Government of India.
What are your roles and responsibilities to the University and the students?

Research is one of the key elements that helps students succeed by igniting their careers. I ensure and nurture the research culture among the students. My duty is to mentor each aspirant in their chosen sector and assist them in developing creative development areas.

Chennai Institute of Technology focuses on enhancing student’s practical knowledge. Students in the classroom are taught subjects with application oriented learning. It makes them to become readily employable engineers when they join any industry.
What is the latest program offered in your institute which helps students outperform and stand apart from the crowd?

I played a role in the establishment of several centers for research. Some of the cutting-edge areas are additive manufacturing, computational mechanics, nonlinear systems, quantum mechanics, computational biology, system design, new energy, artificial intelligence, and machine learning. These centers are actively enhancing the knowledge of students through the conduction of various programs in the modern advancements, and interactive sessions with experts. Our research culture helps to assume ourselves as full-fledged undergraduate students.

When you first came to this institute, what was your vision for the Institute?
“To advance students' knowledge and produce high-quality research facilities on campus”
I joined this institution in the year 2017 as an Assistant Professor. We strongly believe that research is the only way to sustain further and be distinct from other institutions. With the motivation and guidance of our honorable chairman Shri.P.Sriram, I took up the responsibility to concentrate on Research and Development. I began working in a variety of fields, including additive manufacturing, welding, computational mechanics, and energy. Now, I support any undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral students who are interested in learning more about their area of interest and advancing their knowledge in order to produce high-quality research articles which are indexed in the Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE) category.
How does the program ensure that students are being prepared for the future?
“Encourage pupils to take industrial projects and student exchange programme on campus”
Looking into the future of framing a good career and skill development, our students are encouraged to take up industrial projects during their course of study. Student exchange programme in National and International level enables them to become familiar with many technologies. This culture also shapes them to thrive in their respective fields of interest anywhere in the world.
