Mr. G. Senthilkumar has been working as an Assistant Professor of Computer Science and Business Systems at Chennai Institute of Technology, Chennai, Tamil Nadu. He holds an amazing 17 years of teaching experience and has worked as Lecturer and Professor at reputed colleges. He has done M.Sc., M. Tech as part of his academics and is specialized in the discipline of Data mining.
What are your roles and responsibilities for the University and students?
"I am responsible to take care of my students academic and non-academic needs in the best possible way"
Being an Assistant Professor at Chennai Institute, my prime responsibility is to take care of all my students and educate them to become good professionals and human beings. And I also need to regularly address their academic and non-academic issues and queries so that I can resolve them on time and make students feel they are an important asset for us. Lastly, coordinating between teachers and students and guiding and supporting them with my knowledge and experience is my other responsibility.
Which extracurricular activities are organized in your institute to help students outperform and stand apart from the crowd?
"We regularly organize events like workshops, technical connect sessions and seminars"
We firmly believe that only academics alone is insufficient to develop placement and industry oriented skill sets in students. So we have established centers of excellence in our college to provide required industrial experience to students. In addition to this, we conduct workshops, technical connect sessions and seminars as and when required to bridge the gap between students' knowledge and industry developments.
On what kinds of projects your students are currently working on in programs which they are pursuing?
"They are developing projects related to ML, Blockchain, Network Security and Data Science"
We have a diverse range of students in our college having different skill sets and experience. And they have developed some amazing projects and are still working on implementing their ideas on topics such as Machine Learning, Blockchain, Network Security and Data mining.

What career options would be available for students after pursuing Engineering courses from your college?
"Multiple types of job profiles are available in the industrial sector"
The discipline of Computer Science, Digital System and Software Engineering offers a wide variety of jobs in esteemed organizations. And students after successfully completing the course from our institute can become a Data Scientist, Data Analyst, Technical HR, Business Development Associate, Software Engineer/ Developer etc. Because this field not only educates students about coding languages but helps them to become technically proficient persons and leaders.
What challenges are you facing while inculcating Engineering programs in your curriculum?
"Curriculum designing for new subjects and training our faculty accordingly is our biggest challenge"
The department of Computer Science and Digital System contains courses and subjects which are in high demand in the outside world. So designing the course material and training our faculty members to help them deliver the content to students in the best possible way is the biggest roadblock for us currently. But I firmly believe that we will overcome these challenges soon.

Any suggestions which you would like to give to the current youth and aspiring students?
"Develop skills that suits your passion and interests and define your own journey"
I would suggest to my dear students and youths of our society to follow their passion, as this world is so big and filled with unlimited learning opportunities. So utilize your time in the best possible way and do the work that makes you happy. Don't follow others blindly as the scope of work in every horizon be it Software Engineering or any other is limitless. And if you successfully complete your course in the field of Software Engineering, you can become an Application developer, Database engineer, Application Test engineer, Data Analysts, Data Scientist or Data Specialists and so on. So keep learning and exploring the possible growth areas that suit your passion.
